• Patrick Chung is a venture capital investor who serves as managing general partner
of Xfund. An early-stage VC firm based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Palo Alto,
California, Xfund has raised more than $225 million via three funds. Its portfolio
includes Kensho, an AI-driven search and data-analysis company that was
purchased by S&P Global for $700 million in 2018. Other notable investments by
Xfund include 23andMe, the world’s largest personal genomics company, and
Guideline, the fastest-growing provider of 401(k) programs in the United States.
• In leading Xfund, Chung focuses on founders with liberal arts backgrounds as well
as those from scientific and engineering disciplines. As a result of this expansive
approach, more than 70 percent of Xfund's investments have supported businesses
with immigrant, minority, and women founders. Chung leverages a network of
more than two dozen student and faculty advisors from renowned academic
institutions to help founders grow their startups.
• Prior to launching Xfund, Patrick Chung spent nine years at New Enterprise
Associates (NEA), the largest VC firm in the United States. He led the firm's
consumer investing and seed investing practices and was elected partner within
three years of joining the firm. Chung previously worked at ZEFER, an internet
services firm acquired by NEC, and McKinsey & Company.
• Patrick Chung holds a JD and MBA from Harvard Law School and Harvard Business
School, respectively. He was editor of the Harvard Law Review, received first place
in the Williston Contracts Negotiation Competition, and was named among "the
world's most outstanding graduate students" by the Academy of Achievement. He
also holds an MSc in environmental science from the University of Oxford, where
he was a Commonwealth Scholar.
