1. Roofers, Waterproofers, and Allied Trades have been working with contractors and members for over 100
years. They promote skilled craftsman who earn a living wage and benefits for them and their families.
Roofers Local #20 chartered out of Kansas City, KS are one of the locals who are affiliated with the
International Union that oversees the Midwest area.
Roofers Local #20 has numerous contractors scattered all across Missouri, Kansas, and a few from
outlying states that employ hundreds of skilled roofers. Through their employment members of Roofers
Local #20 are able to make an honest “living wage”. They bargain in good faith for great wages and
benefits that also aid in maintaining a productive life in the community.
Benefits such as health care for the member and their families, which allows them to focus on their job
instead of worrying about a family members health and how it will be taken care of. Our members have
the peace of mind when they go to work or to the doctor that they are covered and can receive the care
needed. Even our retirees get to enjoy our health care in which a large percent is covered through the local
allowing them flexibility with their fixed income.
Our members also have the peace of mind in knowing that they are also working to establish a retirement
plan on top of great wages. Roofers Local #20 offers 3 pensions to the members as follows are a local
pension, international pension, and a supplemental pension in the form of a 401k plan. Two of the plans
are defined benefit plans that pay the member until death and spouses are also able to continue drawing
after their loved ones have passed.
Roofers Local #20 has one of the top notch Apprenticeship Programs for roofing across the country. Our
apprenticeship is 5 years so that we can train employees on the best roofing practices, history of roofing,
safety, diagrams and roofing specs so that they are productive and profitable to the contractors who
employ them. An added bonus to apprentices is the ability of the worker to travel to other locals in the
country and maintain their status as an apprentice or journeyperson.
Having a career that pays a living wage and benefits enables a person to become a valuable part of the
community. Our members take time to give back to the community and are able do so due to the
advantages of being in a union. We have members who raise money for MDA (Muscular Dystrophy
Assoc.) every year and have been the top fundraiser in our efforts. We have a members who collect new
and used bikes to giveaway during Christmas at the Kansas City Community College, in which thousands
of bikes have been given away over the years. Many of our members are regular church members who
also aid in those services through the church. We have members who participate in Boy & Girl Scout
clubs across the state. Roofers Local #20 has even donated time to re-roof many of the shelters a Scout
Camp. We have a member who donates his time and boat for the Wounded Warriors Project, in which
wounded soldiers are taken out for a fishing tournament at no cost to the soldier. We have a member who
takes part in a yearly drive to collect money for kids and they do an awesome job. One year they collected
over 100,000 dollars to give away.
