Purpose of Open Models
• Establish a framework and purpose for use of open
practices by GFSP members
• Create a big picture Open Ecosystem Engagement Strategy and
situate GFSP global and local stakeholders within it
• Define and describe nine different open practices stakeholders can
adopt along with their associated value propositions
• Portray China and Colombia case examples showing different paths
through the open ecosystem and use of open practices
• Bring forward a GFSP open policy recommendation
• Recommend next steps

Open Policy Recommendation #1
• Pursue "openness" as an operating principle.
• Partners give consideration to the adoption and use of all nine open
strategies and tactics across all GFSP activities.
It is recommended that GFSP Partners:
– Openly license all GFSP publicly funded deliverables with CC BY 4.0 license (or
CC BY IGO 3.0 if IGO)
– Develop GFSP deliverables in open file formats that are
editable, customizable, and adaptable to local contexts
– Establish a GFSP web site that makes GFSP openly licensed deliverables publicly
available for free.
– Engage GFSP global network and public in use, reuse, and continuous
improvement of openly licensed deliverables.
– Identify resources they currently have that could contribute to GFSP goals if
openly licensed.
– Assess ROI of combining those resources collectively across the partnership and
with the new GFSP deliverables being developed.
Open Policy Recommendation #2
• Stimulate innovation in the adoption of open
practices and the creation of new business models
through the use of open competitions within specific
projects or in general.

open practices
• Create a GFSP open competition grand challenge
• Select a GFSP project to pilot large scale use of open

Purpose of Open Models • Establish a framework and purpose for use of open practices by GFSP members • Create a big picture Open Ecosystem Engagement Strategy and situate GFSP global and local stakeholders within it • Define and describe nine different open practices stakeholders can adopt along with their associated value propositions • Portray China and Colombia case examples showing different paths through the open ecosystem and use of open practices • Bring forward a GFSP open policy recommendation • Recommend next steps

Open Policy Recommendation #1 • Pursue "openness" as an operating principle. • Partners give consideration to the adoption and use of all nine open strategies and tactics across all GFSP activities. It is recommended that GFSP Partners: – Openly license all GFSP publicly funded deliverables with CC BY 4.0 license (or CC BY IGO 3.0 if IGO) – Develop GFSP deliverables in open file formats that are editable, customizable, and adaptable to local contexts – Establish a GFSP web site that makes GFSP openly licensed deliverables publicly available for free. – Engage GFSP global network and public in use, reuse, and continuous improvement of openly licensed deliverables. – Identify resources they currently have that could contribute to GFSP goals if openly licensed. – Assess ROI of combining those resources collectively across the partnership and with the new GFSP deliverables being developed.

Next Steps • Ensure shared GFSP goal around use of open • Identify and aggregate current GFSP partner open practices already in use and their associated outputs • Work with GFSP partners to define open business models (including show me the money models) • Provide workshops and other assistance for implementation of open practices • Create a GFSP open competition grand challenge • Select a GFSP project to pilot large scale use of open
