9. 9. Scenario: Corporate intranet site SharePoint: Designed to allows users to create a completely customized, highly functional intranet site, utilizing Windows Workflow functionality. Business Portal: Designed to be an ‘out of the box’ intranet portal, or slightly customized. Does have integration to certain modules in GP. Has minimal built in Workflow.
    10. 10. Scenario: Expenses Business Portal: No out of the box solution. Could integrate with third party ‘Concur’ Expense application. $5k to set up $8 per transaction SharePoint: Create a custom form and custom workflow . InterDyn has a GP integrated offering starting at $15k- one time cost
    11. 11. Scenario: HR Module Business Portal: Open enrollment, training, skills certifications, benefits W4 form SharePoint: No out of the box functionality -If your company has ADP as their payroll system, then this could be another option
    12. 12. Scenario: Requisition Management Business Portal: Yes, forms and workflow limited. Not to be customized. $1,800 40 per user SharePoint: Utilizing the workflow application (Windows Workflow) InfoPath form, InterDyn has a GP integrated offering starting at $15k. If you already had Business Portal installed, this data business catalog could be used

Q- Does Business Portal use the Windows Workflow Foundation?

A- No, it uses its own

Q – Can I develop on the Business Portal platform?

A – Not really, not without hitting some design barriers. Recommended that you use the SharePoint platform.

    15. 15.

They key question- What are you intending to do and share?

Microsoft Office SharePoint Server allows the flexibility to grow with your organization and maintain creative and technical control of your Intranet Application

Business Portal is a tool in the web solution, not the solution. Great for ‘out of the box’ usage and for users that ‘query’ occasional GP information.

Think of it as Business Portal is a good starting place, but if you really want freedom in your workflows and a true Enterprise Intranet Portal, then SharePoint is your tool of choice.
