2. THE SIMPLE SOLUTION
FOR THE SMART CITY
The demands on city infrastructure are changing, but adapting to
them can be seamless and cost-effective. HeSaLink™ takes its
starting point in existing street lighting networks to provide not
only better and more efficient illumination, but also wireless
Internet access, and the potential to incorporate other technologies,
for a truly Smart City.
In the age of the ‘Internet of Things’, more and more devices are
digitally connected – with HeSaLink™, so too is your city.

4. CITY WI-FI –
MAKE THE
CONNECTION
A connected city is a smarter city. City Wi-Fi meets the demands
of the present and embraces the possibilities of the future.
Wi-Fi is experiencing a huge boom as it expands its coverage from
the home and office to public spaces. Consumers’ ever-increasing
demand for bandwidth can be met by Wi-Fi hotspots, providing
fast and reliable wireless Internet access.
Hundreds of cities around the world are responding by building
City Wi-Fi networks, and the socioeconomic benefits are
already being documented. City Wi-Fi provides services to
citizens, tourists and businesses, but also forms the backbone of
the Smart City, where technology enhances the performance of
public services and improves the quality of life.
6. CITY WI-FI
IN A NUTSHELL
Building a City Wi-Fi service requires three components: equipment to deliver Wi-Fi over the
air; a connection between the Wi-Fi network and the Internet itself; and a way to facilitate and
manage access to the network and create a user experience.
The first task is performed by Wi-Fi radio units, also called access points (APs), which
deliver a high-speed stream of bits and bytes over the air to and from the user’s device,
much like a Wi-Fi router does in people’s homes.
The second component, the backhaul, connects the radio units (APs) to the Internet,
either wirelessly or for example by fiber optic cables. In practice, this part of the network
will also include hubs, routers, firewalls, and other IP (Internet Protocol) networking nodes.
The service platform performs the final critical function. A Wi-Fi network is useless unless
it creates a great user experience and connects devices to the services that people want
– such as simple Internet browsing, accessing email or using social media. The service
platform is in essence a server (a computer). This platform makes it possible for the City Wi-Fi
provider to manage users (grant access), present useful information on device screens, collect
user data, and much more.
When these three components are brought together and operated professionally, this is
what creates a Managed City Wi-Fi service. Managed City Wi-Fi networks of this type can
be applied to serve the needs of multiple companies and cities themselves.

11. HESALINK™ –
OPTIMIZING
INFRASTRUCTURE
HESALINK™ combines a highly efficient and well-proven LED
street lighting product line with Wi-Fi network equipment to offer
a managed Wi-Fi infrastructure solution – just by changing the
streetlights.
Integrating City Wi-Fi capability in upgrading existing street
lighting results in a cost-effective and rapid deployment that
retains the look of your city, eliminating the need for extra
hardware in the streets.
The Wi-Fi system in HESALINK™ is supplied by leading network
equipment vendors and has been specifically selected based on
key requirements that are critical for a robust, scalable, and
future-proof City Wi-Fi network.
12. Internet access is just the beginning. HESALINK™ managed Wi-Fi networks provide a
platform for cities to present useful information on device screens, deliver web-based
services and launch Smart City applications.
The Smart City concept has grown from the need to make cities more sustainable,
without compromising on performance. Information and communication technologies
are making cities more competitive by reducing costs and resource consumption, and
enhancing the quality and performance of urban services. They can also help to
improve contact between citizens and government.
Smart City initiatives are already being successfully implemented around the world,
and the development of applications is constantly providing new paths to a sustainable
and prosperous future.
DATA ANALYTICS
The HeSaLink™ City Wi-Fi network can collect location data from users’ Wi-Fi devices.
This provides powerful Big Data metrics, which can be used to improve public services,
such as by monitoring and analyzing traffic flows for better understanding patterns
and developing safer roads.

MUNICIPAL BENEFITS
HESALINK™ makes it possible to provide free Wi-Fi hotspots
as a service to citizens and tourists, making your city more
attractive and convenient for the people who use it. Greater
connectivity and a network for new applications also foster
innovation and result in a more business-friendly environment.
What’s more, HESALINK™ can contribute to increased
efficiency in local government and public institutions.
You can create a private and secured wireless network
for municipal employees and connect schools, hospitals,
and other public institutions.
BEYOND WI-FI
As well as LED and Wi-Fi, HESALINK™ can be configured
to include the relevant sensors, transducers and cameras
to transform your community into an even smarter city.
Measure daylight, air and noise pollution, air temperature,
road temperature, traffic congestion and other driving
conditions.
A modular system with differently configured sensor
modules allows us to design a HESALINK™ network
to your exact requirements. Whether sustainability,
traffic control, weather and road conditions, parking, or
security is your priority, HESALINK™ has the Smart City
