1. PHILIP HARRIS DECLARED A FINALIST FOR ERA SUPPLIER OF THE
YEAR AWARD 2011
As the leading national supplier of science resources and laboratory supplies, the Philip Harris
team are very proud to be named as a finalist in the ERA awards 2011, for Supplier of the Year.
This is what the judges said about Philip Harris:
“The Philip Harris range addresses a nationwide shortage of practical resources to support
practical science teaching. The resources have obviously been created by passionate people with
a love of science to support the raising of standards in science teaching.
The science and primary science resources meet the needs of the science curriculum at a
number of levels and allow students to create their own practical experiments within the safety of
the classroom environment. The products are easy to use with sound durable construction
making them ideal for the use in a dynamic classroom.
Philip Harris has developed their company with the learner at the centre and the school as the
customer. This is evident in their customer policies and care. They have an excellent customer
focussed technical team, staffed by scientists that can turn around school based problems within
24 hours. This gives schools the security to purchase when they do not have the necessary
technical experience to solve issues themselves.
Philip Harris has a spares and repairs exchange which it uses as a method of ensuring longevity
of use and encourages environmentally friendly ownership in a „throw away‟ society. With the
fiscal environment and limitations placed on many schools and departments today, this is a
necessary but so often forgotten area of school based support.
As a community member Philip Harris supports schools through donations of equipment thereby
helping to develop community cohesion and understanding. As part of the community they have
worked in partnership with the Museum of Science and Industry, offering discounts for guided
tours and materials through the museum that can be used both at school level and at home.
With an obviously ethical stance on environment issues they work towards an open disclosure
agreement with the Carbon Trust. Their community and Green policies are embedded in their
daily working through the amalgamation of their warehousing and offices to reduce their carbon
footprint. The judges thought the catalogues were bright and vibrant with clear labelling and
simple explanations.”
We are also very proud that two of our own developed products won ERA awards for secondary
education. This is testimony to the dedication and commitment of our science specialist team.
The Acquire data logger and the Energy and Fuels kit are both available in our 2011 catalogue
which can be ordered from our website www.philipharris.co.uk.
