Prior to enrolling in medical school, Henkin worked as an International Engineering Consultant for a few years. Ohio State University awarded him his medical degree in 1991. The prominent Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, served as the site of his surgical residency from 1991 to 1998.
