2. There are three things that must be present to make fire. What are they?

4. Fire safety is based on the principle of keeping fuel sources and ignition sources separate. Take away the oxygen, the fuel, or the heat source, and the fire is extinguished!

5. Fuel Classifications Class A: Wood, paper, cloth, trash Basically, solids that are not metal. Class B: Flammable liquids. Gasoline, oil, grease, acetone ect. Also includes gases.

6. Fuel Classifications Class C: Electrical. Energized electrical equipment. As long as it is plugged in. Class D: Metals – potassium, sodium, aluminum, magnesium ect.

7. Fuel Classifications (Cont) Fire Extinguishers have a pictograph label stating the types of fire it is designed to fight.

8. Types Of Fire Extinguishers How many are there?

9. There are 3 types Water (APW)

10. Water (APW) Stands 2 feet tall, weighs 25 pounds. APW = Air Pressurized Water. Has regular tap water and filled with pressurized air.

11. What they do. Extinguish fires by taking away the Heat element. Designed for Class A fires only.

13. What they do. Extinguish fires by taking away the oxygen element. Designed for Class B & C fires. Weigh 5 to 100 pounds. Recharge every 5 years. Dry Ice might shoot out.

15. What they do. Extinguish fires by coating the fuel with layers of yellow dust, which separate the fuel from oxygen. Composed of monoammonium phosphate, pressurized with nitrogen. May come in DC, ABC, or BC extinguishers.

16. How to use a fire extinguisher. Remember the acronym PASS. Pull - the pin. Aim - at the base. Squeeze – the handle. Sweep – from side to side.

20. Rules for fighting fires. Dial 55. Say Code 1 ( Fire ) Help anyone in immediate danger. Activate alarm when told to do so. Know what is burning! Why? Do not fight the fire if it’s too big or your instincts tell you not to. Keep your back to the door.

21. Remember! You are not a fireman or trained to fight fires. Don’t be a hero. If in doubt…run. But try to save our workplace.
