In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? <ul><li>Our crime film is similar to many crime films in the essence of a chase scene. In the two minutes of video, there is reference to violence and drugs and sets the scene for a typical crime film. </li></ul><ul><li>The props we used were minimal, but we used a briefcase with the person being chased to symbolise mystery and oregano/mixed herbs to look like marijuana. </li></ul><ul><li>The costume we used involved relatively everyday clothes but the person chasing the other wore a long coat, which has the semantics of the wearing being respected and important in the district. </li></ul><ul><li>Our film is labelled as a gangster film because of the way the people are portrayed. Mostly unnecessary violence, chasing and drug use symbolise a gangster film. </li></ul><ul><li>Our scene is very similar to the opening scene of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (Guy Ritchie, 1998) in the sense that it is a chasing scene. Watching this film was very helpful in defining what we wanted for our opening scene. </li></ul>
  3. 3. How does your media product represent particular social groups? <ul><li>The only 3 people who are shown are all young males, and this is very stereotypical of today’s crime films. Only criminals are shown, and they are conducting violent behaviour. There appears to be drugs involved, which is the norm for many gangster crime films. </li></ul><ul><li>The group of young males in our film are shown in a negative way, as they are in such films as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Trainspotting. We portrayed them this way because we believed that this was the best way to start a gangster crime film. </li></ul><ul><li>We used the stereotypes about young males committing crimes to do with drugs and money. No other stereotypes are shown. </li></ul><ul><li>We portray the man being chased as a lower class man and the man chasing him as a higher class man. </li></ul><ul><li>We aimed for the audience to sympathise with the man who is kicked to the floor at the end of the clip as he is obviously hurt and desperately needed the money. </li></ul>

What kind of Media institution might distribute your media product and why? <ul><li>Coffee Films have been into the crime/drug subject before, and they are an independent UK film publisher who are willing to look at amateur and low budget films and distribute and promote them. This sort of company would be ideal for our film because it is low budget. </li></ul><ul><li>Coffee Films are more likely to distribute and showcase our film through local arthouse cinema’s instead of the multiplexes in cities. This is because of the budget is lower than mainstream developers. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Who would be the audience be for your media product? <ul><li>Our audience would be young adults (15+) as that is the certificate for our film. Most of them, from the research we have collected, will be males, with the minority being females. </li></ul>

How did you attract/address your audience? <ul><li>The audience, assuming that they are expecting a crime film, will get the pleasures from the scene which we have shot because of the exciting chasing that is shown. The audience will have many questions going through their heads regarding the contents of the briefcase, who the people are and why the man is being chased. This will make the audience want to watch the rest of the film to find out what happens. </li></ul><ul><li>The film I can compare to most accurately is once again Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels because of the chasing scene at the beginning. I found that watching this scene of this film made me want to watch to find out what happens, and I found it a fantastic film. </li></ul>

What have you learnt about the technologies from the process of constructing the product? <ul><li>The internet was very useful for our research task and our design task, as well as watching examples of other crime films. </li></ul><ul><li>I learnt a basic knowledge of using digital cameras and the Final Cut Software. I found it very effective but quite complicated to use at times. </li></ul><ul><li>Next time, I would use a software I am more familiar with, such as Sony Vegas. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Summary <ul><li>We filmed at the Market Drayton canal and surrounding woodland. Alex Cooper, Charlie Bennett and Chris Jenner were acting and Will Panter and Martyn Eley filmed. </li></ul>
