Legacy process ‘its always been done this way’. Operational commitments override any type of optimize the business initiative or transformation movement. Creating capacity for innovation will be critical to any organization’s success, but what is the formula? Here are 4 things you can do today to create space for innovation. The Value-Line Make a list of all the work your team is doing. Ask the hard question, is that work contributing to your team’s core initiatives. Be ruthless in cutting work that isn’t imperative to your team’s mission. Duplicative work Large companies are notorious for duplicating work in different teams. Identify work that’s happening in multiple teams and share the burden. In turn you will both create capacity for innovation. Fixing the wrong problem How many times has a team you depend on not delivered on their commitments? So you shouldered the work because it was critical to your success? Hold them accountable for their deliverables. Automation This one is simple and our Digital Economy is built on the premise that we identify the work that knowledge workers don’t need to do and we automate it. Find that work within your team and automate away.
