  2. 2. • Having a Level 2 Certificate limits you to install pipework systems ( the wet side) and you should not work on gas appliances or gas pipework. • Therefore in the central heating subject we will look at the regulations, systems and components.   3. 3.  These are no longer installed but you may have to decommission these systems from time to time.  They were referred to as background heating in domestic properties : A radiator, for example in the bathroom, which would have been fed from the primary flow and return pipe from the boiler.  The Flow and-return to the radiator was usually 22 mm on solid fuel boilers it had to be a 28mm, the pipe work had to be put on the correct fall & rises to allow for circulation (hot water rises / cold water falls).  This system worked on the principles of large diameter pipe work with the correct falls & rises as no pump was installed in the system. Therefore the last radiator in the circuit was the coolest You would have to select low frictional resistance radiators and selected fittings as the pump would only circulate the water around the circuit and not directly through the radiators.   8. 8.  This was a popular system to install.  Under part L regulations this is longer permitted to be installed in new properties.  In a two-pipe system, there is two pipes that run around the circuit a flow and a return. This increases the heat up time on in the radiators.  You balance the system by adjusting the lock shield valve on each radiator. First radiator closed the most the last radiator closed the least.
