3. ‘ANALYSIS OF ENGINE
BLOCK
S O F T W A R E : H Y P E W O R K S
Static, Fatigue, and Modal Frequency Response Analysis of V8-Engine Block
using HyperWorks.
Project description: Engine block is meshed with Tetra elements by following
modelling guidelines:
• Rigid Constraints are created at the corners of the Engine block and Gas
pressure is applied inside the cylinder as per the requirement
• Structural analysis is performed for all the specified material and
corresponding stress and displacement are determined
• Modal Frequency Response analysis is conducted and from frequency, vs.
displacement graph the critical mode shape is suggested
• To check the quality criteria of the Engine block, Fatigue life, and damage is
calculated by performing fatigue analysis.

6. Effects of rear slant angles on the flow
characteristics of Ahmed Body
• Sizing functions is used in order to obtain accurate lift/drag parameters.
• Mesh is controlled around the car body to properly capture the flow in the
region closest to the vehicle and also capture the flow in the wake region.
• Inflation layer is added with first layer height to properly resolve the
boundary layer.
• The analysis was conducted in a closed-loop water channel with a 750 mm
height, 1000 mm width and 800 mm length
• Following CFD simulation results are compared against the reference
experimental data for effects of the rear slant angles (𝛼=25°,30°,35°):
1. Patterns of time-averaged streamlines (𝜓)
2. Profiles of time-averaged normalized stream-wise velocity
3. Patterns of time-averaged turbulent kinetic energy (𝑇𝐾𝐸)
