Coaching plays a significant role within
the realm of talent identification infact
it Has been suggested that key issues
within the talent identification stage
include having “many highly qualified
and well educated coaches” and “a
guarantee that these highly qualified
and well educated coaches and worked
with beginners and not only high level
athletes.”
Definition
 Talent is the adequate aptitude or ability in
one direction, above the normal average.
 Someone who has talent is able to do some
thing without trying hard.
Importance of talent identification
 Discovery of the great talent
 Recognition of the hidden talent
 By recognizing the talent at the early stage the children
can show their talent at their extreme
 Talent identification helps in finding a big asset for the
country
Components of Talent Identification
 The main components of Talent ID can be divided into
the following categories:
 Physiological
 Physical
 Psychological
 Technical/Tactical
 Results
 Intangibles
Stages of pursuit of excellence
1.
Discovery of potential performers who are not
currently involved in the sport in question
2. TALENT IDENTIFICATION
Recognizing current participants with the potential
to become elite performers.
3. 3. TALENT DEVELOPMENT
Providing athletes with a suitable learning
environment so that talent can be realised.
4. TALENT SELECTION
Ongoing process of identifying at various stages -•
individuals who demonstrate prerequisite levels of
performance.
Steps for talent and its promotion
Step I
Aim: screening of children for basic training stage
Screening done on the basis of :-
1. Health and physique
2. General physical performance capacity
3. Motives interests mental capabilities
4. Interests of parents etc.
Step-II
After 3-4 years of basic traning
Aim:- selection for a group of sports (Advance
traning stage )
Selection based on the following
1. Physique and Motor abilities
2. Ability to tolerate load
3. Performance
4. Cognitive emotional and personality traits
Step-III
After 3-4 year of advance traning
Aim:- selection for a sport (high performance
traning stage )
Selection based on the following :-
1. Physique
2. Performance and the potential for performance
3. Talent indicators
4. Cognitive ,emotional and personality traits
Dimensions of family dynamics during three
phases of development
(talent identification)
 Athlete increases commitment to one sport
 Parents show great interest in child-athlete's sport
 Parents demonstrate different behavior toward
each of their children
 Younger sibling or twin shows bitterness and jealousy
toward their older sibling's achievement.
 Athlete makes a commitment to one or two sports
 Parents emphasize school and sport achievement to
their child-athlete
 Parents make a financial and time commitment to their
child-athlete
 Parents develop growing interest in the child athlete's
sport
 Older sibling act as a role model of work ethic.
 Parents provide opportunities for their children to enjoy
sport
 All children within a family participate in various extra-
curricular activities
 Parents recognise a "gift" in the child-athlete.

Key factor for talent identification
Observation is the major key
factor
 Parents should be very observant of their child from a
young age itself, to spot their areas of liking! Studies
show that 90% of the human brain develops before the
age of twelve.
 Once these years pass away, the scope for
enhancement of natural talents in children reduces
greatly.
 It is vital that the most is made out of the period
before the age of twelve.
 There are two relevant quotes which are ideal to
describe the importance of this,
 “Make hay while the sun shines” and
 “Strike while the iron is hot.”
Thank you
