Education
Plan of Study: Technical Management Degree – February 2016
To meet the needs of adult students, DeVry developed its bachelor’s-degree-completion
program in Technical Management. The curriculum helps students with qualifying prior
college experience add an important credential – a bachelor’s degree – to their résumé.
The program also offers technical specialties to facilitate students’ advancement to
supervisory or management positions in their chosen field of specialization. Specialties
are shown in the following program outline, as is a general technical option, which
students may take in lieu of a specific technical specialty.

This is a letter of recommendation for Terry Bright. Terry was hired as employed as the
Maintenance Team leader at Wheeler Industries. Work priorities included performing PM’s on
CNC and Manual machining centers. It also included working on electrical, pneumatic, and
hydraulic systems.
Terry’s strengths rest primarily in the CNC side of the shop. He adapted quite well on the manual
machines, and grew considerably in his understanding of 3 phase electrical. Another strength that
Terry has is demonstrated in his inter-personal skills with others. He is able to discern what is
needed in order to get a machine operational in a timely manner.
I personally enjoyed working with Terry. Again, he is very personable and likeable individual.
Terry is also willing to take lengths to maintain working relationships.
In conclusion, I recommend Terry to anyone that is looking for a self-starting and reliable person
for their organization.

To Whom it May Concern:
Terry Bight was recruited by Advanced Technology Services in May of 2015 as a Level II
Maintenance Technician to work in the Eaton Aerospace Division. During his time here, Terry
has been responsible for total productive maintenance using an SAP based electronic system,
planning and scheduling his own workload, identifying gaps in the preventive maintenance
program and responding to downed equipment calls.
Terry fulfills all employment responsibilities with little to no supervision. His position requires
interaction with the customer, as well as the ability to provide full scale production support,
working with OEM equipment manufacturers, diagnosing and repairing of electrical, pneumatic,
hydraulic and mechanical systems.
I am happy to act as a reference for Terry and can speak highly of his customer service skills,
work ethic, technical skills and professionalism. Please feel free to contact me should you require
further information.

History of Ford
Henry Ford started off in 1896 building a Quadricycle in his backyard while he was
working in the Edison Illuminating Company as the Chief Engineer (Ford Motor Company
incorporated, 2014). Henry Ford tried two times to get his business going; in 1903 with $28,000
in cash he signed the papers with investors to start the Ford Motor Company (Heritage, 2014). In
2014 standards $28,000 would be $756,756.76 according to the inflation calculator supplied
from DaveManuel.com. The first car was produced in a plant on Mack Avenue in Detroit a
month later. Henry Ford was responsible for the first automobile production line thanks to the
popularity of the Model T. He also set the standard for an 8 hour work day with $5 pay for that
day.
In a few years after starting his business Henry Ford was able to acquire 58.5 percent of
the company by 1906 and stayed in control of the company even though he made his son Edsel
president in 1919. After Edsel’s death in 1943 Henry Ford returned to run the company before
handing it over to his grandson Henry Ford II in 1945.
After WWII family’s wanted to return to a normal life and Ford wanted to return to a
normal production routine. The ’49 ford was born and Ford headed back into prosperity
(Heritage, 2014). The famous Mustang rolled out in production in 1964 and started a craze that
ended up selling 418,812 in the first year (Heritage, 2014).
The Ford motor company has also helped in the implication of the NASA control center
known as mission control. This helped in starting the Ford Aerospace and Communications
Corporation which was established in 1986. The company was sold to Loral Corporation in
October of 1990 for $715 million and ended Fords’ involvement in the space program (Heritage,
2014).
Fords’ Mission Statement
26. 26
(One Ford Mission and Vision, 2014)
Ford Strengths
Ford has been in business since 1903 and has shown the ability to rough out any kind of
storms seen in the market. Ford brought itself back from WWII era production with introduction
27. 27
of the ’49 ford which helped catapult ford to 50% in sales in the US. During the gas hikes of the
late ‘70’s Ford had already positioned themselves with cars that had smaller motors and greater
Fuel economy such as the Ford Pinto. In the ‘80’s Ford continued its success with the Escort and
the Windstar. In 2014 the Ford Focus was named the 2nd highest selling automobile in the world
(Ausick, 2014).
Ford also started the first production line which meant they became an industry leader.
This has led to Ford being amongst the top 5 manufacturers in the world for several years and
also led to Ford being the 4th largest automobile manufacturer in the world (Douglas A.
McIntryre, 2013).
Ford Weaknesses
Ford has a history of poor environmental issues. Not only do they have problems with gas
mileage with their SUV’s and vehicles such as the Mustang, they have large problems with
pollutants’ from their factories (Climate Change Legislation, 2013). The vehicles are ranked as
some of the worse in terms of gas mileage and the company has been linked to 42 toxic waste
sites by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This has led to some lawsuits such as the
Ringwood residents filing suit for toxic dumping, which Ford does not deny because it was legal
at the time (Cynthia McFadden, 2009).
Ford Opportunities
The new emission standards work to Fords’ benefit, because of the large investment and
commitment that Ford has made to green as much as possible. They have invested large amounts
of money in fuel efficient engines. The Ford F150 is proudly wearing the Ford Eco Boost badge
is estimated to improve its gas mileage from 2014 at 10-16 city and 14-22 highway (F150 by
Years, 2014) and the 2015 Eco boost at 13-19 city and 17-24 highway (Tingwall, 2014).
Ford also has great success in creating strategic partnerships with universities, coalitions,
and other groups to improve their understanding of climate change. At the university level Ford
28. 28
has heavily invested in alternative fuel research. In the state of Michigan Ford has received a $2
million grant to install a battery power storage facility that will support the smart grid
(Partenerships and Collaboration, 2013).
Ford Threats
The gas prices affect not just Ford but all manufacturers who have invested in gas economy
vehicles. Trends have shown that when gas prices go down people start buying larger vehicles
and avoid the gas economy cars (Lindeke, 20014). With the introduction and mining of shell or
fracking, gas prices are starting to drop. This trend is too early to tell in 2014 as the gas prices are
just starting to fall and what effects a political change in power in the U.S. government will have
on the overall gas prices and oil lines.
Fluctuating exchange rates may negatively affect Ford and other automotive companies. As
more and more companies earn half of their profits outside of the U.S. the dollar may not be a
valuable as foreign currency. If the dollar is week then foreign customers will want more and
when it gets strong they will want less (Bryan Keythman, 2014). The exchange rate can help or
hurt depending on projected sales expectancies.
Summary
Ford is well positioned to handle any global or economic change occurring at present. Sales
of the Focus and anticipated Eco Boost line up have put Ford in a great position to rake in the
financial fruits. The company’s continued ability to work with unions and customers as well as
suppliers give Ford an edge when it comes to negotiations and keeping a well skilled and diverse
work force.
