The decisions made by the government need
to be forward-looking.
NEWater and desalination were explored as means to reduce
reliance on water imported from Malaysia, which has been a
source of friction over the years and it treats wastewater
(sewage) that has been purified using dual-membrane (via
micro filtration and reverse osmosis) and ultraviolet
technologies, in addition to conventional water treatment
processes.

To capture the growing Market, Singapore’s government decided to
build two Integrated Resorts at Marina Bay and Sentosa.
Singapore's "integrated resorts" also offer theme parks, high-end
shopping, hotels and convention halls and casinos. To date, casino
licenses have been awarded to Marina Bay Sands and Resorts
World Sentosa. These are the first casinos in the country and both
have begun operation since early 2010.12. Resorts World Sentosa
was the first of the two integrated resorts in Singapore to begin
operating in January 2010 while Marina Bay Sand began its
operations in April 2010.

Singapore’s government consulted the people on the issue of
having a casino as a part of an Integrated Resort. Many
people were against it as gambling may lead to an increase
in divorce rates, breakup of families, etc. Thus the
government made changes such as Singaporeans needs to
pay $100 for the entry of casino.
