5. Get Ready to Roll the Dice!
Welcome to the 2015 Public Interest Auction! Thank you for joining us for an evening of food, drink, fierce
bidding, and surprise performances, all in support of Harvard Law School’s public interest community.
Since 1994, the annual Public Interest Auction has raised money for Summer Public Interest Funding
(SPIF). SPIF funds the work of students pursuing summer employment in non-profit, government, or
private public interest settings, making it possible for students to accept unpaid or underpaid positions.
During the summer of 2014, 480 Harvard Law students received funding totaling $2.19 million. Over 40 of
these students worked internationally in 27 countries, and 440 students worked in 32 states, plus the
District of Columbia. We are so impressed with the range of work our classmates will take on this summer,
and are proud to support and celebrate their public interest employment.
This evening’s event would not have been possible without the participation of many people throughout the
law school community. We are truly grateful for the assistance we have received from faculty,
administrators, alumni, students, firms, local businesses, corporations, and families. Thank you! Your
support makes it possible for students to do meaningful work and have extraordinary experiences at public
service organizations all over the world.
We would also like to thank the members of the Class of 2017. All the 1Ls who will receive SPIF this
summer have contributed to this auction, and without them tonight’s event would not have been possible.
The best part of working on the auction for us has been the opportunity to get to know and work with so
many of our tremendous classmates.
A few things to keep in mind this evening: When bidding on silent auction items, please be sure to write
your bidder number clearly. Please also notice the minimum bids and raises indicated on the item
placards. For some items, we provide only the contact information of the donor; it is the winner’s
responsibility to follow up. Please recycle any paper goods, including these programs, and compost all
compostables in the marked containers. Bid at your own risk; we are not able to make returns.
The Silent Auction will close at 7:00pm. Prepare to be dazzled by our extraordinary auctioneers Professors
Susan Farbstein and Jonathan Zittrain when the Live Auction begins at 7:00pm in the Ames Courtroom.
Time to go all in!
With gratitude –
Your 2015 Public Interest Auction Co-Chairs

There are only a few ways to be remembered
here at Harvard Law School. You could win the
Ames Competition and get your name on a tiny
plaque OR you could go down in history as the
subject of an LRW problem. Your name is
guaranteed to haunt the dreams of 1Ls and be
seared into the brains of neurotic HLS alums for
years to come. Want to pin a white-collar crime
on a friend? Haunt the house you grew up in?
Now you can - in LRW world! The Board of
Student Advisers will make you the main
characters of an open or closed memo problem
that will be used in LRW for classes to come! You
are sure to come up in the conversations of every
1L next year. Immortality!

Legoland Discovery Center has recently opened
in Assembly Square, Somerville. The Center has
rides, games, a 4D movie, and, of course, lots
and lots of Legos to build all sorts of cool things.
But alas, adults are not permitted to enter the
attraction unless accompanied by a child
between the ages of 3 and 10. Professor
Campos and his two adorable children, ages 2
and 6, are offering to accompany you and 2
friends (3 total) to go to Legoland Discovery
Center on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.
Contact Professor Campos to arrange a date and
time. Snacks will be provided!
