One slide summary• You cant change other people• Responsibility is not a character trait, its a mental process• Its SUBJECTIVE• Its TRANSIENT• Study on typical mental states that our mind processes through to avoid responsibility o Denial Ignoring the existence of something o Lay Blame Holding others at fault for causing something o Shame Laying blame onto oneself (often felt as guilt) o Justify Using excuses for thing being the way they are o Quit Giving up to avoid the pain of Shame and Obligation o Obligation Doing what you have to instead of what you want to• Keys to responsibility o Intention Intending to respond from Responsibility o Awareness Catching yourself in a mental state o Confrontation Facing yourself to see what you can learn or improve
