While shooting for the film was almost complete, it was never released due to a clash between the producers, director and distributors. The shots were taken in then Calcutta (now Kolkata). Actor Nipon Goswami, who was also part of the movie, added, "Sonti's story was based on the novel 'Oliver Twist' or 'The Parish Boy's Progress' by Charles Dickens. It was a story about an orphan boy and his struggle of life. It was a good experience working with X who was then one of the superstars of Bollywood. I will cherish it forever." The unreleased movie, "Sonti", was reportedly an action film that also featured Assamese actors Akhil Deka, Dilip Choudhury, Ila Kakoti and Parag Patra.

Besides, Buddhism was after all rooted in India and the country boasted a long-standing legacy of exquisite art and heritage, which offered a wealth of inspiration for the team.
