Supermodels who don't let age get in the way
1. Supermodels Who Don't Let Age Get In The Way
Not just for schoolgirls, supermodel status and supermodel money may have more
to do with beauty, health and presence than with age. Gracing the covers of top
magazines and shooting ad campaigns for couture designers, former supermodels
are still making high-fashion waves. From Milla Jovovich at 35 to Lauren Hutton
at 67, there's no shortage of lucrative work, proving that even in the modeling
industry, age is not necessarily a barrier to success.
17 Unstoppable Supermodels
(1) Lauren Hutton, 67, was the first true supermodel. She began her career as a
Playboy Bunny at age 20 and went on to become a celebrity cover girl and top
fashion model in the 1970s. Her groundbreaking 1974 contract with Revlon was
worth one million dollars, a first in the industry. Fired by Revlon at age 40, she
made a comeback several years later. At 61, she posed nude for the European
magazine Big, and at 63 modeled for an Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen clothing
line. Now 67, she's modeling for top designer Alexis Bittar. In between modeling
assignments, Lauren launched her own successful cosmetics company and acted in
several films.
(2) Helena Christensen, 42, shows no indication of getting old. Featured on Cover
in May, 2011, she began modeling in the late 1980s and rose to supermodel status
by the early 1990s. Helena was a Victoria's Secret Angel and represented Revlon
cosmetics. She starred in the 1991 Chris Isaak music video "Wicked Game," which
was later voted one of MTV's "Sexiest Videos of All Time." Helena is an
accomplished photographer, has served as Creative Director of Nylon Magazine
and, in her spare time, designs clothing.
(3) Milla Jovovich, 35, began modeling at age 10 and went on to represent
L'Oreal, Christian Dior and Versace. Milla appeared in Revlon's "Most
Unforgettable Women in the World" ads when she was 13 and signed her first big
contract the same year. She began acting shortly thereafter, scoring a major role in
The Fifth Element (1997) alongside Bruce Willis. She returns to the screen this fall
with a starring role in The Three Musketeers. Milla is also a musician, producer
and fashion designer. She still finds time to model, gracing the September 2010
cover of Elle Ukraine.
(4) Cindy Crawford, 45, started modeling in the early 1980s when she was just 16
and stood out from the pack with her curvy figure. She posed nude for Playboy,
2. and her sexy, well-toned body has continued to turn heads and land modeling
contracts to this day. She made several well-received exercise videos, created a
collection of beauty products, launched a line of home furnishings and hosted
MTV's House of Style. Appearing in a recent ad campaign for Deichman Shoes
and on the May, 2011 covers of Elle China and Vogue Mexico, Cindy looks as hot
as ever. With countless cover shots, ad campaigns and runway work to her credit,
she remains one of the most successful models in history.
(5) Stella Tennant, 40, appears on the Summer, 2011 cover of i-D looking fresh
and youthful. Her big break came in 1993 when she appeared in a fashion shoot
called "Anglo-Saxon Attitudes." Photographed by Steven Meisel, it showcased a
handful of beautiful, aristocratic English girls. Stella then appeared on the cover of
Italian Vogue and was chosen as the face of Chanel.
(6) Linda Evangelista, 46, shot to the top of the heap in 1987 with her first Vogue
cover. Refreshingly frank, she gained notoriety by commenting that she "does not
wake up for less than $10,000 a day." Known for her short bobbed hair and lean,
chiseled frame, Linda has been strutting her stuff for 33 years. Recently signed as
the new face of Talbots, she has no intention of retiring.
(7) Amber Valletta, 37, is a successful model-turned-actress. After reaching
international acclaim as a top model, she began her film career in 2000 with Drop
Back Ten. Amber has since appeared in numerous feature films, including the hit
movie Hitch in 2005. One of the few supermodels to successfully transition into
films, Amber looks ageless on the Summer, 2011 issue of i-D.
(8) Iman, 55, seems immune to the aging process. The Somali-American model
looks essentially the same on the March, 2011 cover of Ladybrille as she did when
her modeling career took off in 1976. One of the early supermodels, Iman was a
celebrated star in the modeling world for nearly 20 years. In 1994, she launched an
innovative cosmetic line for women of color that generates 25 million annually.

successful venture.

several models representing Chloe.
3. (10) Claudia Schiffer, 40, came to international attention in the 1990s when she
was the face of Chanel and appeared in a series of sexy ads for Guess? Jeans. Her
resemblance to Brigitte Bardot and tall, lean frame landed her more than 500
magazine covers and numerous lucrative contracts. Cited in Forbes "Top 15
Supermodel Beauties Who Made Bank," Claudia's net worth is estimated at nearly
$55 million. Appearing on the July 2011 cover of Harper's Bazaar, she looks as
fresh and youthful as ever.

androgynous appearance. She gathered acclaim through 1998, modeling for top

Chanel Couture and, having recently gone gray, shows off her mane on the cover
of Italian Vogue. Kristen will represent the new Lanvin campaign and is featured
in the current issue of Dazed and Confused,
(12) Eva Herzigova, 38, appears on the cover of the April, 2011 issue of Harper's
Bazaar UK, clearly demonstrating that even while pregnant,, she still has
supermodel magic. She started modeling at age 16 and, after arriving in Paris,
appeared in a Wonderbra campaign that brought her international attention. The
birth of two children has not diminished her allure. She proves it wearing Dolce &
Gabbana with Helena Christensen and Claudia Schiffer on the September, 2011
cover of Spanish Vogue.
(13) Christy Turlington, 42, has appeared on covers, runways and in ad
campaigns for almost 30 years. On the side, she graduated from NYU and is
pursuing a master's degree in public health. Christy is an actress, writer, mom,

Maybelline, in 2009 the face of Yves Saint Laurent, and in 2010 the face of Louis
Vuitton. Featured on the cover of French Elle last December, she looks lovelier
than ever.
(14) Kate Moss, 37, became notorious in the early 1990s as the skinny Calvin
Klein waif who popularized the look of "heroin chic." It changed the look of
contemporary fashion and made Kate a superstar. Due in part to her willingness to
pose nude, she quickly became as popular as Cindy Crawford. Known for an
impeccable sense of style and a knack for making money, Kate appears regularly
on "Best Dressed" lists and is reportedly the highest paid model in the world. With
a net worth of over 50 million, Kate launched a clothing line in 2007 inspired by
the contents of her own closet. Since rocketing to stardom, she has appeared in

Delinda Deline in the NBC drama, Las Vegas, for five seasons. Molly got noticed
for her frequent Sports Illustrated swimsuit appearances between 2000 and 2006.
She hosted MTV's House of Style and is one of the faces of Cover Girl. Still
beautiful, Molly appears on the February, 2011 cover of More.
(16) Naomi Campbell, 41, rose to supermodel status in the late 1980s, scoring her
first Elle cover when she was only 16. Her phenomenal success made her part of
the supermodel "Trinity," along with Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelista. In
1990, Interview Magazine declared her the "reigning megamodel of them all."
Naomi has made an ongoing stand against discrimination in the modeling industry
and, after 25 years, is still in demand for work. She appeared on the cover of the
Essence Anniversary Issue in 2010, on the cover of Vogue Nippon in June, 2011,
and is heralded as the most famous black model of her generation.

designers like Versace and on the cover of the 2005 Sports Illustrated swimsuit
issue. With her classic face and blonde hair, Carolyn has been compared to actress
Gene Tierney.
While age is no barrier to accomplishment, these exceptional women prove that it
need not be a barrier to youthful beauty and vibrant health. Like them or not,
supermodels are living proof that age really might be "just a number."
