2013
kicked
off
as
it
meant
to
go
on.
Marc’s
first
composiCon
in
his
role
of
composer-­‐in-­‐associaCon
with
Thumb
Ensemble,
Birmingham
saw
the
premiere
of
‘black
bile’
for
ensemble
to
much
acclaim
in
the
Recital
Hall,
Birmingham
Conservatoire,
on
the
20th
January.
Later
that
month
Sarah
WaQs
gave
the
world
premiere
of
‘quarter-­‐sounds’
a
bass
clarinet
study
in
mulCphonics,
in
Gent,
Belgium
as
part
of
the
European
Clarinet
AssociaCon
ConvenCon.
Sarah
has
subsequently
toured
this
piece
widely
and
it
has
become
an
integrated
part
of
her
lectures
around
mulCphonic
producCon
and
research.
Sarah
is
also
recording
the
work.
Extended
techniques
also
link
the
next
two
pieces.
On
the
26th.
March,
Stephen
Upshaw
gave
the
world
premiere
of
‘hȳran’
for
solo
viola
at
Parasol
unit
foundaCon
for
contemporary
art,
London
among
the
installaCons
of
sculpture

Nuur.

another
work
for
strings,
‘pathos’
for
cello
received
its
world
premiere
with

2. April
was
an
exciCng
month
as
Chamber
Cartel,
a
US
new
music
ensemble
based
in
Atlanta,
Georgia,
announced
that
Marc
was
to
be
their
composer-­‐in-­‐associaCon
for
several
future
seasons
with
commissions,
performances
and
recordings
being
created
through
the
relaConship.

June
Marc
became
ArCst-­‐in
Residence
with
the
Marburae
Gallery
Maccelsfield,
Cheshire,
where
he
is

which
pianist

Marc’s

the

Markus
Wenninger
will
premiere
‘black
root’
for
E
flat
clarinet
in
Krems,
Austria.
There
are
more
premieres
to
come
from
Markus
in
2014.
In
November,
cellist
Patric
Tapio
Johnson
[who
premiered
‘pathos’
for
solo
cello],
along
with
modes
of
persuasion
[ensemble]
will
give
the
world
premier
of
two
substanCal
works
by
Marc
with
an
ensemble
comprising
some
of
the
finest
young
musicians
in
London;

Over
the

18
months
a

collecCon

Marc’s
piano

Marc

Callaert

pieces

difficult
Viciousness

Circles,
Oroborous
and
‘ENÛMA
ELIŠ’.
Comprising
an
hour
of
music,
this
iniCal
collecCon
of
pieces
will
be
the
first
professional
recording
of
Marc’s
piano
music.
Geert
will
be
recording
the
work
in
Academiezaal
Sint
Truiden;
a
beauCful
concert
hall
in
Belgium.
Geert
and
Marc
are
also
making
a
documentary
video
of
their
work
together
in
August
this
year.

Under
the
auspices
of
their
new
iniXaXve,
CreaXve
Music
Composer
ConXnuum
(CMCC),
the
CHICAGO
MODERN
ORCHESTRA
PROJECT
has
asked
composer
Marc
Yeats
for
a
new
composiXon
for
their
2014-­‐15
season.
The
new
commission
will
see
Marc
conCnuing
his
composiConal
research
around
unsynchronised
performance
and
composiConal
techniques,
culminaCng
in
a
substanCal
work
for
brass
ensemble,
percussion
and
strings
[with
opConal
piano]
that
will
push
Marc's
unsynchronised
composiCons
into
the
orchestral
sphere
for
the
first
Cme.
The
work
will
be
directed
but
only
to
iniCate
sounds
and
instrumental
groupings.
All
performers
will
play
'as
soloists',
following
their
own
fully
notated
parts
which
shall
contain
different
tempi,
bar
structures
and
material,
simultaneously
performed
[unsynchornised]
across
the
orchestra
without
a
unifying
beat
from
the
director.
Each
performer
will
play
'live
and
[to
a
certain
extent]
free'.
Due
to
the
composiConal
nature
of
the
music,
each
performance
will
yield
slightly
different
results,
interplays,
gestural
and
harmonic
references
and
unique
outcomes
creaCng
music
of
great
fluidity,
unpredictability,
beauty,
complexity,
wild
energy
and
connecCvity.
This
music
cannot
be
read
from
a
convenConal
score;
it
renews
itself
with
each
performance
and
can
only
be
'revealed'
when
played
live.
There
are
many

projects
in
the
pipeline
for
2014
and
beyond
which
Marc
will
announce
once
confirmed.
