FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS
What is fundamental skills?
• The ability that is necessary in order to perform a task or
understand an idea because it is a foundation for other skills or
ideas.
• A basic ability usually considered necessary for competent
functioning in society (e.g.,reading,basic mathematics,essential
communication skills).
• Adjective[usually adjective noun] you use fundamental to describe
things activities and principle that are very important or
essential.They affect the basic nature of other things or are the
most important element upon which other things depend.
WHAT ARE THE SEVEN FUNDAMENTAL
MOVEMENT SKILLS
• Running
• Jumping
• Coordination
• Throwing
• Catching
• Kicking
• Sriking
WHAT IS THE IMPORTANT OF FUNDAMENTAL
SKILLS?
• Fundamental movement skills (FMS) are a specipic set of
gross motor skills that involve different body parts. These
skills are the building blocks for more complex skills
that children will learn throughout their lives. They
help children take part in games,sports and recreational
activities.
WHAT IS THE EXAMPLE OF FUNDAMENTAL
SKILLS
• The fundamental movement skills to be developed
through health and Physical Education include: locomotor
and non-locomotor skills rolling,balancing,sliding,jogging
running,leaping,jumping,hopping,dodging,galloping and
skipping,object control skills bouncing throwing catching
kicking,striking.
• Some fundamental skills you need are communication,
teamwork and self-management.
WHAT IS THE MEANING OF FUNDAMENTAL
BODY MOVEMENTS?
Fundamental body movements are basic body
movements that involves various body parts. these
fundamental movements are foundational building blocks
upon which more complicated intricate physical movements
are locomotor, non-locomotor and manipulative movements.
LOCOMOTOR
Locomotor skills involve
moving the body from point
A to point B These skills
include walking running
jumping leaping hopping
skipping and galloping
FUNDAMENTAL MOVEMENT SKILLS
CATEGORIES INCLUDE:
NON -LOCOMOTOR
Non-locomotor skills
involve body stability
and balance.These
skills include twisting
turning pivoting and
performing balances.
BALANCE SKILLS -
Movement where the body
remains in place,but moves
around its horizontal and
vertical axes.
BALL SKILLS - Such as
catching,throwing,kicking,un
derarm roll and striking.

• Benefits of testing the four skills
(reading,listening,writing and
speaking) When we say that someone
“speaks” a language fluenty,we
usually mean that they have a high
level in all four skills -
listening,speaking,reading and writing.
WHAT IS THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL SKILL?
• Learning itself is a skill. Unlocking the
mindset and skills to develop it can
boost personal and professional lives
and deliver a competitive edge.
Here are some tips and activity ideas to get
children moving:
1.Consider the different ways you can travel
with your body.
• Does your child love animals? Superheroes? Dinosaurs?
Have them move through the classroom space while
imitating their favourite characters’ movements:
• Animal Friends Activity– Check out this video example of
how this activity can look
• Shake Your Sillies Out Activity
2.Utilize common household object
• Try using common objects such as scarves, Kleenex, or
balloons to get children moving! You can throw something
in the air and challenge children to run and catch the
object, so it doesn’t touch the ground! Do you have a
narrow hallway and yarn? Tape yarn pieces to the wall
and create a laser maze! Pretend the children are spies
and have them get through the hallway without touching
the yarn.

3.Don’t forget that falling is a skill.
• Encourage children to jump into powdery snow or
onto piles of pillows and blankets. Normalizing
falling will help them realize that falling does not
equal hurting. By learning to fall safely, children will
also learn how to balance themselves to prevent
falling.
4.Give children lots of space to move.
• Utilize the space you have, whether it’s indoor
or outdoor; make as much space as you can
to allow them to dramatize their movements.
Play upbeat music to energize the children or
play calming music as a sign of a cool-down
period.
5.Make physical distancing part of the activities.
• By using mimicking techniques, kids can follow the
instructions from two metres apart. Games such as Simon
Says can be great to get kids to copy your actions while
promoting a safe space barrier. Promote locomotive and
stability skills through physically distanced dance parties.
• Developing fundamental movement skills is an ongoing
process. If the child is disinterested in particular activities,
take a moment to figure out why:
WHAT IS THE SIX TYPES OF SKILL RELATED
FITNESS
• There are six skill-related fitness components: agility, balance,
coordination, speed, power, and reaction time. Skilled athletes
typically excel in all six areas.
1.AGILITY- is the ability to change and control the direction and
position of the body while maintaining a constant, rapid motion.
Example: changing directions to hit a tennis ball.
2.BALANCE- Is the ability to control or stabilize the body when a
person is standing still or moving.
Example: in line skating.
3. COORDINATION - Is the ability to use the sense
together with the body parts during movement.
For example: dribbling a basketball. using hands and eye
together is called hand eye coordination.
4.SPEED - Is the ability to move your body or parts of your
body swiftly. Many sports rely on speed to gain advantage
over your opponents.
For example: A basketball player making a fast break to
perform a lay-up, a tennis player moving forward to get to a
drop shot,a football player out running the defense to
receive a pass.
5. POWER - Is the ability to move the body parts swiftly
while applying the maximum force of the muscles. Power is
a combination of both speed and muscular strenght.
For example: Fullbacks in football muscling their way
through other players and speeding to advance the ball and
volleyball players getting up to the net and lifting their
bodies high into the air.
6. REACTION TIME- Is the ability to reach or respond
quickly to what you hear,see, or feel.
For example: An athlete quickly coming off the blocks early
in a swimming or track relay, or stealing a base in baseball.
WHY ARE THE 9 ESSENTIAL SKILLS
IMPORTANT?
Nine essential skills are needed for the workplace. These
skills are used in every job to varying degrees and at
different levels of complexity. They provide the foundation
for learning all other skills and enable people to evolve with
their jobs and adapt to workplace change.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS WE CAN GET IN
PERFORMING THE FUNDAMENTAL
MOVEMENTS?
By moving, you are strengthening your muscles which
improves stability, balance, and coordination. dont forget,
stretching helps maintain your muscles health as well;
MUSCLES: You have more than 600 muscles in your body
that contribute to about 40% of your total body weight. By
moving, you are strengthening your muscles, which
improves stability, balance, and coordination. Don’t forget,
stretching helps maintain your muscle health as well.
BONES: Movement helps build more durable, denser
bones. Bone-building activities like resistance training
(weights), weight-bearing exercises (jogging, walking,
hiking), and balance training (yoga) can support better bone
density.
JOINTS: Yoga is all about body awareness, so you’re
compelled to pay attention to each movement. By being
aware of how you move, you can increase coordination and
balance, be mindful of the positioning of your joints, and
relax. Plus, yoga encourages flexibility and range-of-motion,
which boosts joint flexibility and joint function.
BRAIN: Walking 30-40 minutes a day three times per week
can help “regrow” the structures of the brain linked to
cognitive decline in older adults. If you are working from
home or tend to sit more often, make an effort to take
walks.
HEART: According to the British Heart Foundation, we can
avoid around 10,000 fatal heart each year if we keep fit, so
start moving and try cycling to improve your heart health.
Regular cycling can cut your risk of heart disease by 50%.
LUNGS: Keeping your rate up improves your
cardiorespiratory endurance. Circuit training with a personal
trainer or in a group fitness class is a perfect solution. But
again, you don’t have to perform a high-intensity movement.
Instead, try BODYFLOW or Yoga Sculpt – it still gets your
lungs going but at a more comfortable pace.
