4. Definition of Orientation
• Orientation is a systematic and planned introduction of employees
to their jobs, their co-workers and organization.
• Workplace orientation is a process by which a new employee gets
introduced to their job roles, work areas, and work environments.
5. Purpose of Orientation
1. Getting familiar with the organization:
-a physical tour of the organization will give a basic idea of where the necessary
tools are which will help them in their work.
2. Introducing company policies and procedures:
-organization has a code of conduct and a structure which they follow to maintain
decorum.
3. Job Responsibilities and Expectations:
-the job description may have been thoroughly discussed with the employee.

-retirement benefits like life insurance, sick leave, vacation perks of employees.
5. Building Relationships:
-an orientation program also focuses on building up relationships between the new
employees and their team members.
6. Concentrating on what the employee needs:
-a new employees start working in a new organization might get skeptical about
asking for their needs.
7. Why is need for Workplace orientation?
-helps the organization in improving their bottom line
-helps the employee to feel more relaxed about their work which in turn
increases their productivity
-gives the employees the freedom to ask and provide feedback about how
they feel about their work
-an organization can improve its structure wherever necessary.
8. Motivation and Performance
Motivation
It is the psychological process that gets employees going, keeps them going, and determines the
direction and strength of the effort they apply. It’s what causes them to stop and apply our
energies elsewhere.
Performance
It is the process of reviewing an employee’s performance during the preceding year or cycle and
deciding where he or she stands.
9. Importance Motivation in HR Management
• To be motivated, performance is assessed by managers daily and more formally
in performance appraisal and development review.
• Ultimately management must create a feeling of job satisfaction in all staff. Job
satisfaction comes from task performance and feeds back to reinforce feelings of
meaningfulness.
10. Importance of Measuring Performance in HR Management
Performance must be measured against job descriptions; and goals and expectations must be
quantified to check the employees qualification.
• Performance management uses the principles of motivation and performance measurement.
• Corrective action must be actively managed to success.
Ex. Poor performance- need trainings
• Review personal ability and general mental ability
11. Motivation and Performance Link to Leadership
• Managers cause staff to be motivated and to perform.
• Leaders do this through the jobs they create, their own leadership, the work
environment and the culture that they engender in the firm. The link between
leadership approach and culture must be appropriate and differs in each firm.
12. Compensation
Compensation is a systematic approach to providing monetary value to employees in
exchange for work performed. Compensation may achieve several purposes assisting
in recruitment, job performance, and job satisfaction.
How is compensation used?
Compensation is a tool used by management for a variety of purposes to further the
existence of the company.

• recruit and retain qualified employees.
• increase or maintain morale/satisfaction.
• reward and encourage peak performance.
• achieve internal and external equity.
• reduce turnover and encourage company loyalty.
• modify (through negotiations) practices of unions.

• Job Analysis
• Job Evaluation
• Pay Structures
• Salary Surveys
• Policies and Regulations
16. Conclusion:
In conclusion, an orientation program is a major part of any
organization. Without proper guidance, it becomes difficult for employees to
cope up with their work. Organization must provide an orientation to
effectively implements the program.
If there's motivation, performance is also possible. Motivation and
performance lead to positive outcomes to meet the goals. With proper and
satisfying compensation, it motivates the employee to work hard in the
organization.
17. Implication:
It is important to have an orientation to new teachers to feel that they belong to the
family and give them an idea about the school because it will help them to cope up with the
new environment. It will also creates positive climate in the school. The cooperation of
everyone in school is needed to meet the goals that will lead into success.
The School Heads have big roles in motivating the teachers to have better performance
and to improve. It is the sense of doing the job well through motivation. However, to have
higher a compensation, we, teachers must be motivated to study so that we will professionally
grow and improve our performance too .
