What is Android ?
 Android is an open-source software and
operating system for mobile devices.
 Based on the Linux kernel.
 Developed by the Google and Later the
open Handset Alliance(OHA).
 Android Platform was announced on 5
november 2007 with the founding of OHA.
 Android Platform using the Java
programming language.
Features & Specification
 Android is a powerful operating system
supporting a large number of application
in smart phone.
Some of the features of Android are :-
 Application Framework.
 Dalvik virtual Machine.
 Integrated Browser etc.
Android Architechure
Advantage of Android :-
1). Android can run multiple Application at the
same time.
2). Android gives you better notifications.
3). Android lets you change your setting faster.
4). Android lets you choose your Hardware.
Application
1). Google for software devlopment application
had Launched two competition ADC1,and
ADC2 for the most innovative application for
android.
2). Each component performence a different role
in the overall application behavior ,and each
one can be activated individually .
3). Such as the minimum version of android
required and any hardware configuration
required.
Defference between other mobile OPS :-
1). Android is open source software but other
mobile OPS is close.
The Market Share for commonly used Mobile OPS is
shown in The Following chart :-
What is Linux kernel ?
In computing ,the kernel is the main component the most
computer operating system.
It is a bridge between applications and the actual data
processing done at the hardware level.
Linux-kernel developer Rafael J. Wysocki who has the
Android operating system design by the Linux kernel.
Operating System ?
 Android uses Linux for its device drivers,
memory management, Process management,
and networking.
 There are all written c/c++ internally, but you
will be calling them through the Java interfaces.
 Dalvik Virtual Machine, Dalvik runs dex, which
are coverded at compile time from standerd
class and files.

1). Operating system that can be found on
smartphoneRIMs,
Mobile Ops powered tablet computer and other
mobile devices include google’s ANDROID, APPLE’s,
RIM’s, Black berry Os, microsoft windows phone ,
Linux, Hp, Samsung, Nokia’s among many others.

 Android is a not a single Piece of hardware it’s
a complete End-to-End software platform that
can be adapted to work on any number of
hardware configuration.
Security
 Android is a multi process system, In which
each application runs in its own process.
 Most security between application and the
system is enforced at the process level through
standard Linux facilities.
 The additional security features are provided
through a “Permission” machenism that
enforces restriction on the specific operation
that a particular process can perform.
