Studies indicate that 9 out of 10 businesses have shut down within 5 years after the death of the founder and only about 3 out of 10 survive in second generation. Most family business are designed to fail as they do not address successor planning and training, have poor risk management practices and suffer from interdependencies between the family, the business and ownership.
