Methodology
o The survey was conducted on May 20th and June 4th 2020, сommissioned by
Philip Morris Sales and Distribution Ltd.
o Survey participants: adults (18+) from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Odessa, and Lviv.
o Survey method: CATI (computer-assisted telephone interviews) among random sample
of landline and mobile phone numbers.
o Sample type: 5,000 respondents, quoted, by city population, gender and age.

Results in brief:
• Prevalence of current nicotine consumption in Ukraine is
33% among adult population of the studied cities (Kyiv,
Kharkiv, Dnipro, Odessa, and Lviv).
• 25% of respondents smoke cigarettes, 8% smoke other
combustible tobacco products (such as cigars, cigarillos,
pipes, water-pipes), 7% use heated tobacco products (IQOS,
glo), 1% use e-cigarettes, and only 0.3% use smokeless
tobacco.
• The product the respondents started first regular nicotine
consumption with, in the overwhelming majority of cases
(88%) were cigarettes. 5% started with other combustible
tobacco products, only 0.5% first consumed nicotine with
heated tobacco products (IQOS – 0.4%, glo – 0.1%), 0.4%
with e-cigarettes, 0.3% with smokeless tobacco.
• Concerning intention to quit, 57.3% of the current TNP
users do not plan to quit all TNPs use in next 6 months,
while 12.0% planned to do it within the next 30 days and
22.6% within next 6 months (but not within next 30 days).
• Ever cigarette smokers started smoking cigarettes regularly
at the age of 19.8 on average. In comparison, ever IQOS
users started using IQOS regularly at the age of 32.9 on
average. All IQOS and glo users have started using
IQOS or glo regularly once legal age (18+ years old) for
tobacco use.
