Day 15 nlp

  1. 1. NLP NLP
  2. 2. NLP In this chapter  I want to talk about NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming. This to me is an essential skill that you must have and understand in order to communicate with people better in order to be more effective and in order to ultimately influence people in a way that is ethical. So let's look at the three elements  neuro to do with the brain  linguistics to do with language  programming to do with programs that we run in our mind, but you may say to me that how can I be programmed? I'm not a robot. I'm not a computer, but you see we do run programs. Here's an example. You're driving in the car, you're driving along happy, happy, happy, and you hear somebody go beep beep. The first thing you do is you twist your head around and you get aggressive and it's like, what the fuck? Who's who's beeping at me? And maybe they're not actually beeping at you, but we've been programmed that when we hear somebody beeping, we react in a certain way. Another example is when we see rain, we run the program of, I'm going to be late for work. I'm going to be on smelly buses. I'm going to be in a smelly metro. I'm going to get to work late. My boss is gonna yell at me. I'm going to be wet. I'm going to be in a bad mood for the whole day. Whoa! What is actually is we are running a program that we have been programmed to run, so how can NLP help you? Well, when you know how your brain operates and is programmed and you know how to communicate with people on their level by using the language that they understand, you're going to find that it is easier to influence people. Now, I'm going to go in depth into some of these topics, but let me just talk about one element which is rapport and rapport is that feeling of ease that you have with somebody. 3. 3. NLP I'm like you, so I like you. Do you ever just click with somebody, your best friend? You feel so comfortable with them. You can talk about anything with them.  When you are with them you are in rapport, that is that feeling of being at ease with somebody. Now imagine if I told you that you could learn that skill. Imagine being able to be in  rapport with somebody very, very quickly. Would that be useful to you? What if I told you that by getting rapport with somebody,   you would be able to influence them ethically? Is that something that would interest you as well?  Building rapport can be quite simple if you know how humans work and what programs they run! You see when a person does a certain thing this runs a program called "I may like this person." Here's a simple example of how to build rapport.   Watch the body language of the person and mirror it. If they move hold place their hand on the table you could, subtly, do the same. If they flick their hair, you could subtly do the same.  Notice the word subtle!  You don't want them to think you making fun of them. Another thing to do is to listen to the language they use and use similar language.  You see in all walks of life groups of people - from co-workers to people interested in football, all use a special language. If you use that language they will see you as part of their group. If learning how to ethically influence someone and understand people is something of interest might I suggest you download my NLP primer here. RichardButlerTheSuccessCoach.com
