Virtual learning environments (VLEs).
Features of VLE
Problem in current VLEs
Challenges in VLEs.
Conclusion
3. What is a VLE?What is a VLE?
Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) is a platform with the aim of supporting
learning and teaching activities across the internet.
A VLE is an education system based on web that models the real world education
with virtual classes test etc…
A virtual learning environment (VLE) allows online interactions of various kinds to
take place between tutors and learners making use of computer and internet .
Typically Web-based, VLEs provide an integrated set of internet tools, enable
easy upload of materials and offer a consistent look and feel that can be
customized by the user.
4. To provide education to physically disabled students and students with
diseases like dyslexia ,epilepsy etc.
To provide education to students with weak economic background.
To make learning enjoyable and pressure free.
In India still VLE is not popular, there are only few colleges which provide
VLE.
5. A VLE is a social space .
The VLE should provide students with access to a learning
environment (not just a collection of resources!) where they
can ask questions, explore resources and ideas, and
engage in tasks which will enable them to further their
understanding…
The VLE provide students with access to the learning
environment from any location, at any time, through a range
of possible devices…
This in closely with the aim for increasing independent
learning within the school…
VLE can make learning easy.
7. Changing the Learning Culture: Migrating to the electronic learning
environment calls for a change in the attitude of learners. The learners need to
be trained in handling of the new media.
Training of Teachers: Teachers need to upgrade their skills in developing
and delivering the course content through networks.
Courseware/software Development: Web based learning does not refer to
just putting the learning material on the network.
Equal Access to Technology: It must be assured that learners have equal
access to the material provided on the net, immaterial of where they live or
placed.
10. This can help instructors to design courses more effectively, detect anomalies, inspire and
direct further research, and help students to use resources more efficiently.
Additionally, quantitative and qualitative data will be collected to evaluate the outcome
and effectiveness of the online courses.
The purpose for using the VLE can vary from being like a textbook or scientific material to
be more like demonstration or even a game.
Our long term objective is to create a full featured learning system targeted for academic
environment.
Society is changing rapidly, our students are ‘digital natives’ having grown up surrounded
by technology. They are already engaged in many online social groups (through
facebook, myspace, bebo, online forums etc).
We believe that university, apart from knowledge, must prepare students for the real world;
we know our students use the technology in their free time (Internet, electronic mail, social
networks, chats, messenger…), and we want them to use it in their academic lives as well.
