So today I’d like to talk to you about things I think I am doing to create an environment
that allows great teaching to happen.

I think "it's all about the intersection/interplay of/between relationships and
technical skills"
(with a bit more emphasis on the relationship part)

I’ll do this by brieﬂy discussing a few projects we are involved in or have done in our
school


I’d like to tell you a story about teddybear travels -- a story of relationships and technical
skills

school ,

who would describe herself as “not very good with computers”

and did yet another project with the butterﬂies that she grew every year with her students,

Yes in my backyard is a story about how we received a Mb Citizenship grant of $1000 and
created the idea of make a difference mondays in march.
during Sag last year Sophie, Sara, and I brainstormed about what we could do around an
active citizenship project with our grade 5 and 8’s and this was the result

asking for food donations every monday in march 7:30-8:30 am then delivering to the
homeless shelter


voice recorder on ipod with make a difference mondays homeless shelter fundraiser
asking people “what do you think about what we’re doing here?”

approached businesses with students to get support (Tim Hortons, Robins Donuts, and McDonalds)
developed a relationship with the director of the homeless shelter

right now doing a Young humanitarian awards nomination
keeping it sustainable ie. doing again this year
considering a Thompson community foundation grant this year

again fostering risk taking , doing things we have never done before
