PROFILE
A self-motivated and conscientious Harbour Master with 35 years marine experience, 26yrs as a
Harbour master. Proven leadership skills, including managing and motivating 13 Port employees to
achieve Port objectives and also 25 years RNLI experience, of which 13 years as 2nd
coxswain, until
stood down through work commitments. A good communicator at all levels, should that be with
the local fishing industry, councils or stakeholders. Able to work on own initiative as well as part of
a team. Good problem solving, practical and seamanship skills. Computer literate.
HARBOUR MANAGEMENT
• Day to day management and supervision of the Port.
• Controlling and managing annual Port Budgets and forecasts.
• Strategic planning for Harbour and Port Improvements
• Overseeing all vessel movements and berthing and the collection of dues.
• Management of Port projects and services – Shell fish facility, Quays and liaising with
MP, local, District, county councils, Wind farm operators, MMO, etc.
• Dealing with enquiries and disputes and liaising with Harbour users.
• Attending meetings and liaising with outside organizations
• Allocation of pontoon berths and moorings to leisure & commercial vessels
• Maintaining 32 navigation marks within the Port in compliance with regulations with
Trinity House
• Quarterly returns and annual Trinity House audit.
• Overseeing of maintenance and laying of all moorings
• Operation and maintenance of six Port vessels in compliance with MCA coding
2. • Management of the dredging in the Outer Harbour and channel
• Management of the 30 meter dredger “Kari Hege”
• Skipper on Port vessels when required.
• Pilot duties when required.
• Management of hydrographic surveys within the Port
• Balance needs of the Port Authority and tourism industry within the community
STAFF MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT
• Man management of the Port team of 12, 17, in high season
• Setting individual objectives in line with Port strategic goals
• Producing job descriptions
• Staff training and development
• Establishing and conducting induction training sessions for new employees and
Commissioners
HEALTH AND SAFETY
• Establish procedures to ensure the safe and efficient running of the Port in compliance
with the Marine Port Safety Code.
