  1. VOLLEYBAL L BY: EDITHA CABILES ROGENE BUTOL ADRIAN INTIA EDGARDOTAN
  2. BRIEF HISTORY OF VOLLEYBALL
  3. William G. Morgans William G. Morgan was a physical education instructor at the YMCA in Holyoke, Massachusetts in the late 19th century. Morgan wanted to create a new indoor sport that was less physically demanding than basketball, which was invented just a few years earlier. In 1895, Morgan came up with a game he called "mintonette", which was played with a net and a ball on a court that was 25 feet wide and 50 feet long. The original rules of mintonette were very different from modern volleyball, and the game was played with nine players on each side. Over time, Morgan and other players modified the rules and equipment of mintonette to make the game more exciting and challenging. By 1900, the game had evolved into what we now know as volleyball, with six players on each side, a standard net height of 7 feet 11 5/8 inches, and rules that emphasized skill, strategy, and teamwork.
  4. Volleyball Basic Rules
  5. Basic Rules • Objective: The objective of volleyball is to score points by hitting the ball over the net and onto the opponent's court, while preventing the opponent from doing the same. • Team: Each team has six players on the court, with up to six substitutes on the bench. • Serve: The game begins with a serve, which is a hit over the net by the serving team. The server must stand behind the end line and cannot touch the net. • Rally: Once the ball is served, the rally begins. The ball must be hit back and forth over the net, with each team having up to three hits to return the ball. • Scoring: A team scores a point when the ball hits the opponent's court, or when the opponent makes a mistake (e.g. hits the ball out of bounds, fails to return the ball over the net, or commits a violation). The first team to reach 25 points (with a two-point advantage) wins the set, and the first team to win three sets wins the match.
  6. Basic Rules • Rotation: After a team wins a rally and earns the right to serve, its players rotate one position clockwise. This ensures that each player gets a chance to play in different positions on the court. • Substitutions: Substitutions can be made at any time, as long as they are done in a designated substitution zone and only when the ball is out of play. • Violations: There are several violations in volleyball, including touching the net, stepping over the center line, and carrying or throwing the ball instead of hitting it. Violations result in a point for the opponent. • Timeouts: Each team is allowed a limited number of timeouts during a set or match, to rest, strategize, or break the opponent's momentum.

  8. FUN FACTS • volleyball was originally called "mintonette" by its inventor, William G. Morgan, who wanted to create a less strenuous indoor sport. • Volleyball became an Olympic sport in 1964, and has been included in every Summer Olympics since then. • Beach volleyball, a variation of the indoor game played on sand, was first introduced as a demonstration sport in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. • Volleyball is the second most popular sport in the world, with an estimated 900 million people playing the game globally. • The first World Championship for men's volleyball was held in 1949, and the first World Championship for women's volleyball was held in 1952. • Volleyball is one of the few sports where players are not allowed to touch the ball with their feet or any other part of the body except for their hands and arms. • Volleyball is played by more than 800 million people worldwide, making it one of the most popular sports in the world. • The first volleyball game was played with a basketball and a tennis net, and the original ball used was made of leather.
  9. REASONS WHY VOLLEYBALL IS FUN RECREATIONAL ACTIVITY
  10. • Volleyball is a sport that is enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels, making it an excellent recreational activity for anyone looking for a fun way to stay active and socialize with others. Here are some reasons why volleyball is a great choice for a recreational activity: • Firstly, volleyball is a team sport that requires cooperation and communication between players, which makes it an ideal activity for building social connections and friendships. Whether playing with friends, family, or new acquaintances, volleyball provides a fun and social atmosphere that encourages players to work together and support each other. • Secondly, volleyball is a highly active sport that requires a variety of physical skills such as jumping, diving, and quick movements. This makes it a great way to get in shape, increase agility and endurance, and improve overall fitness levels. Additionally, because volleyball is a low- impact sport, it is less likely to cause injuries than other high-impact sports like basketball or football. •
  11. • Thirdly, volleyball can be played in a variety of settings, including indoor and outdoor courts, and even on the beach. This flexibility makes it easy to find a convenient location to play and adds to the fun and excitement of the game. Playing volleyball on the beach, for example, adds an extra element of challenge as players must adapt to the sandy surface and windy conditions. • Finally, volleyball is a sport that can be enjoyed by players of all ages and skill levels. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced player, there is always room for improvement and enjoyment in the game. This inclusivity makes volleyball a great activity for families, friends, and coworkers to bond over, and can help to bring people together in a fun and active way. • In conclusion, volleyball is a fun and engaging recreational activity that provides a range of physical, social, and mental benefits. Whether you are looking to improve your fitness, make new friends, or simply enjoy a day of fun and games, volleyball is an excellent choice. So why not gather a group of friends or family members and head to the nearest court for a day of active and enjoyable play?
