_SHIFT_ CAMPAIGN? SHIFT will be held the week of 22 September 2014. SHIFT aims to accelerate innovation for development by:  ‣ connecting UNDP innovators, and ‣ encouraging UNDP Country Offices to experiment with and learn from different approaches to development. Based on real, immediate needs for creative thinking, Country Offices are invited to host research and learning events such as design jams, prototype testing, open space labs and hackathons (more on hackathons). External partners are welcome. The participants of SHIFT are Country Offices with innovation activities underway as well as those interested in kick-starting innovation initiatives. SHIFT week begins on 22 September and creates the ideal environment for UNDP innovators to directly test new ways of working with new partners and methodologies. The aim of SHIFT is to encourage a culture of innovation, learning and sharing within an Office, throughout UNDP, with our national partners and with the global public. Country Offices hosting SHIFT events will also showcase their work to a global audience. Through the Knowledge Innovation and Capacity Group (KICG), the UNDP Innovation Facility is providing support for Offices to work out loud by supporting communication and outreach that shows innovation in action at UNDP. 3 see more tools CREATED BY NESTA WITH SUPPORT FROM UNDP

SHIFT represents a shift away from a “business as usual” approach. UNDP is creating a space for individuals to collaborate creatively, take measured risks and adopt an outside-in perspective that is driven by our clients’ perspectives and needs. SHIFT also shifts colleagues and experts around the organization to share knowledge and drive innovation between countries and regions. _3.2_ MISSION
The objective of the campaign is to begin a regular annual week where Country Offices receive support to focus attention on innovation. All SHIFT related content and conversations will be easily recognisable on social media, by the hashtag #inno4dev. Each event will also have its own event hashtag. _3.3_ VISION This campaign can highlight existing innovation activities and lessons learnt or help explore and kickstart innovation. The communication around the campaign will show how UNDP: ‣ has real examples of innovation and how the organization is learning from them ‣ is a responsive, knowledge sharing organisation, driving innovation for development in the field ‣ is agile and adaptable in the face of increasingly complex challenges 5

  7. 7. _ S H I F T _ U N D P W E E K O F I N N O VAT I O N A C T I O N | C A M PA I G N T O O L K I T ❺WORK OUT LOUD TO BE HEARD (AND SEEN) Working out loud is the art of sharing what you do with your colleagues and, if applicable, with the public. We highly recommend you work out loud before, during and after your SHIFT event, as it: ‣ Showcases both your SHIFT activities and your ongoing work on innovation. By regularly sharing insights on how you achieve successes and address challenges along the way, you contribute to an open dialogue that can help UNDP colleagues and external partners. ‣ Encourages feedback and ideas that will make your SHIFT event more effective, especially if you can engage your target audience. ‣ Builds or strengthens a network of innovators (UNDP colleagues, external partners and the global public) and raises your profile, by communicating your work and asking and answering questions. ‣ Increases transparency and produces a continuous flow of information that is likely to build trust with donors, stakeholders and other people interested in your work. For more information and tips, see the Working Out Loud Teamworks blog post. 7
  8. 8. _ S H I F T _ U N D P W E E K O F I N N O VAT I O N A C T I O N | C A M PA I G N T O O L K I T ❻TALK ABOUT YOUR _SHIFT_ EVENT EVERY DAY, IN MANY WAYS Depending on your type of event, your Regional Portfolio Management Team may have set aside funds for daily communication and outreach. UNDP’s Knowledge Innovation and Capacity Group (KICG) provides guidance on how to have an online conversation about your SHIFT event. Use the #inno4dev hashtag and your event's hashtag in all related official or personal online communication and outreach, as this will help facilitate analysis of SHIFT’s global engagement. To engage with UNDP colleagues working in thematic or regional networks, blog on Teamworks. Make sure to post your blogs to the Inno4Dev community and related thematic networks. Reach out to donors, government, civil society and the development community through public blogging on UNDP’s corporate website. The Our Perspective blog will soon feature the category “working out loud” and you are encouraged to submit content about your SHIFT event. Contact KICG’s Anna Boelens for more information. Some other places to talk about your work: ‣ Instagram or Flickr - share a photograph of the target community of your innovation initiative. Include a quote if you can! ‣ Facebook or Google+ - ask your friends and members of any of your groups to help share an infographic, or pose an interesting question. ‣ Twitter - share an exciting insight or update about your event with a photo. Updates should be posted at least once a day before and during SHIFT. Using video to document and promote your SHIFT event is a powerful way to convey the excitement and energy around innovation for development. The communication team can support your use of video in two ways: _7.1_ WEB STREAMING VIDEO With basic filming equipment and a reliable Internet connection, you can open your event to the entire organisation and also the global public. ‣ Read the guide - Webcasting 101 ‣ If you can identify some sessions in your agenda that you think will be engaging and interesting to others, contact the SHIFT Communication Team as soon as possible so that we can help you set-up web-streaming. _7.2_ VIDEO FEATURES The SHIFT campaign has a dedicated video producer who will guide you through the process of selecting and recording people and places. The video producer will edit this footage into a trailer, featurette or mini- documentary. ‣ Watch a video that has the energy and excitement that we hope to create with our SHIFT videos. ‣ If you have good quality video footage or recording equipment contact the SHIFT
 Communication Team as
 soon as possible. 9
