2. In the construction of our music video we used a lot
of hardware.
We used a Nikon D3100 camera to film our music
video. This allowed us to control the depth of field,
focus and shot angle, producing high quality
footage to use in out music video.
We also used a Velbron DF 04 tripod to keep some
of the shots steady, such as the shots of the
characters on the bench and the performance
shots. This helped keep our footage of a high
quality and professional.
3. To create some of the lip-syncing shots we also
used a projector.
We projected the image of clouds onto our artist
as she sang whilst we shined the LED light on
her with different coloured filters.
We also used LED light by flashing it on and off
in time to the music as we filmed our artist lip-
syncing.
This gave us high quality and professional
looking sip-sync shots to use in our music
video.
4. In terms of software, we used Imovie to edit out music
video.
In Imovie we changed the colour of some of the scene to
black and white in order to conform to the conventions
from the indie-pop genre.
Additionally, we layered our footage and changed the
opacity in order to match the tone of the music video to the
song.
Also, we were able to edit the footage to the beat of the
song in order to get the lip-syncing right and match the
pace of the song. This also made our music video more
professional and conforming of our genre conventions.
5. Along side our music video, we were given
two ancillary tasks; we were to construct a
magazine advert and a digipak.
To do this we used the Nikon camera to take
the photos we used for both tasks. This
allowed us to manually focus the camera
and take high quality photos to use.
6. Also for our ancillary tasks, we used the
online picture editing software called
ipiccy.com.
On this website I was able to remove any
wrinkles and blemishes from our artists face.
We also used the eye bright tool to make her
eyes look clearer and make the photo look
more professional.
We also added a rainbow filter to our image
to reflect part of our music video.
7. Another software we used to edit our photos
was Adobe Photoshop.
We used this to add text to the images such
as the artist name, album name, track list
and so forth.
For the magazine advert we also added a
boarder but layering three different coloured
layers of different sizes.
8. To make our A2 media products successful, we required a
lot of research around the genre of music that we had
chosen for our music video.
To do this, I used internet browsers such as Internet
Explorer, Google Chrome and Bing. This allowed my to
find websites that I could use for my research.
One website I used often to find out about the conventions
of indie-pop music videos was YouTube. This allowed me
to watch music videos of artists from our music genre and
study what the conventions of our genre of music was. It
was through this way that we decided on our song choice
as we could see recommended video’s based on the
music videos we had previously watched.
9. Furthermore, to conduct audience research to
find out about our target audience, I created a
survey on the website SurveyMonkey.
This allowed me to see who our target audience
was, what they looked for in a music video and
what other music genres they liked. This was
very informing and was part of the reason I
included elements of Kpop MV’s in our own
music video.
10. Another website that I used regularly was
SlideShare, where I was able to find out about
theorists such as Laura Mulvey, and look further
into the conventions of our chosen genre.
This was useful as I was able to see a presentation
about conventions and theorists, almost in a lesson
format.
Similarly to YouTube, it showed me recommended
presentations based on what I had already seen,
allowing me to gain a deeper insight to what it was I
was researching.
11. In the planning stages of our music video,
media technologies were very important.
As I have previously mentioned, we used the
website YouTube to help us find our song
choice as it came up as one of the
recommended videos based on what we had
watched already.
It was also through YouTube that we found
music videos that we liked and took inspiration
from.
12. Part of the planning stage included doing a
treatment pitch. For this presentation, my group
used a presentation software called Prezi.
On this website we were able to create a
presentation with our own theme that reflected
the tone of the music video that we were
planning at the time.
By using this software we were also increase
the professionalism of our treatment pitch.
13. As part of this stage, we also created an
animatic for our storyboard. We did this by
drawing out our storyboard and recording it
manually with the Nikon D3100 camera.
After we did this we uploaded the footage to
Imovie where we were able to layer our chosen
song over the top.
This was so that we could see what our final
music video may look like and see if there were
any changes to be made.
14. Another thing we had to decide was the name
of our artist and the track list for our digipak.
To do this we used online name generators
such as Bandnamemaker.com. This allowed us
to come up with a random name.
We also looked at pretty words from other
languages from the website Buzzfeed. This
way were able to see words that we might use
for our track list and artist name, or at least
inspire them.
15. For my evaluations I have used a multitude
of different media technologies.
One software I used was Prezi which
allowed me to present my evaluation is a
professional and easy to understand way. I
also added many images and some videos
to my presentation to help further explain my
points.
16. Another website I used was Powtoon, a
professional presentation software that was
in the format of a slide show and animation
all in one.
I chose the layout for each slide and change
it around to suit my own situation, making it
easy and clear to follow.
17. Furthermore, I used Emaze, another online
presentation software.
On this I used a 3D template that allowed me to
present my evaluation in an innovative way that
was still clear and easy to understand.
On this I was also allowed to embed a video into
the presentation to further explain my point. This
video was the audience feedback from our
showcase that we filmed using an iphone.
We then uploaded the footage into imovie where
we added background music and edited footage so
it was easy to understand.
18. The last software I used for my evaluation is
Microsoft PowerPoint.
This is an easy but effective software to use
for presenting ideas.
I used a theme that help makes it look
professional and in a format that is clear and
easy to understand.
I then uploaded this onto SlidShare so that I
was able to embed this into my blog.
19. I have fully utilised a variety of media
technologies, both hardware and software in
order to research, plan, construct and
evaluate my media products in an effective
and innovative way, demonstrating my
knowledge of media technologies.
