HORIZON
At the outset, I would like to thank the Almighty Allah for His never ending
grace, mercy and provision in all our success. I am very delighted to get the opportunity to present you
our regular monthly bulletin “Horizon” in the month of August ,2018 for the Rota Year 2018-19.
I humbly convey my gratefulness to our president Rtr. Md Rabiul Hossain for giving me the
responsibility of Editor. Heartiest gratitude goes to the IPP, VP, secretary, Treasurer, Four Service
Directors, all the members of our club and also all the stakeholders for their relentless support.
Why Horizon? As the word implies, Rotaract Club Of Chittagong South is stepping into its 14th year
successfully and reaching the Horizon of success in the rotaracting arena by creating a significant
momentum in terms of uniqueness, professionalism and community engagement. By dint of our
unison and commitment, we will eventually be driving towards new height.
To publish this issue, I put my diligence effort to include list of new board who lead us 2018-19 rota
year, and brief recap of all club activities through pictorial presentation. Besides, writing about the
perfect pitch and observation of Mandela Month is also included in this issue.
The whole process of compiling the bulletin was so hurting. It may contain omissions and other
typographical errors for which I humbly accept liability and seek apology.
Regards
Rtr. Md. Ashadul Alam
Editor

Observation of Mandela Month
Category: International Joint Project
Date : 18&19th
July-2018 ; Participating Club: over 75+ clubs around the world
By the grace of Allah and with immense pleasure we Rotaract Club of
Chittagong South celebrated "The Nelson Mandela Week" in his 100th
Birthday. We used to celebrate Mandela Week from 17th to 24th July.
In 18th July 2018, We did different activities for celebrating the 100th
birthday of Noble Peace Prize Award Winner Mr. Nelson Mandela by
conducting different activities, falling in line with Mr. Mandela's vision
throughout the month of July as last year. It was a joint project hosted
by Rotaract Club of Mumbai Shivaji Park.
In this Rotary Year 2018-19, We started the Mandela Week celebration
by passing time with orphan children in an orphanage. We visited an
orphanage and there we did Three (3) activities and project naming:
1) “Quran recitation Competition”
2) Distributed Food Parcel among the orphan children's.
3) Distributed some toys among the Children's of orphanage.
That was our starting project of Mandela Week celebration 2018. In the next day we did another project
“Donate Your Skill”. Our club International Service Director Rtr. Rashed conducted this project where, he gave
some basic ideas about Microsoft office and practically taught about it to a college student. Team south think
that everyone have some skill and if we donate it to others we can develope ourselves and society. So Take
Action. Inspire Change. Make Every Day A Mandela Day

The Perfect Pitch
(Rtr. Md. Ashadul Alam)
What is pitch?
A pitch is the 15 seconds presentation that you make to hook your audience to want to know more
about you, your project and your ideas.
Types of Communication-
 Interpersonal communication – Speaking to one or a small group where you disclose as much
or as little about yourself, your project and your ideas. Mostly done in social gatherings and
networking events.
 Nonverbal communication – your attire, gesture, posture, mannerisms etc.
 Oral communication – Public Speaking & Written Communication – Emails, Text Messages.
Interpersonal communication-
 Research your audience – know what they can offer, have clear idea of what you want from
them. Know whether you want them to fund your projects or invest in your dream or give you
a job or otherwise. Have clear understanding of what you want so that you can communicate
clearly.
 Prioritize whom you want to speak to. Make sure whomever you are reaching out to can offer you
something.
 Ask inquisitive questions. Show genuine interest in them. People love talking about themselves.
 Never ever ask for money. Exchange contact if that is an option. Always follow up
 Be courteous and mind your etiquette. This means no phone. Keep the selfies to a minimum.
 Time management is a key. Do not linger for long. Speak for a few minutes, leave on a high note.
Nonverbal communication-
 Dress well- dress for the job you want , not the one you have. And there is a reason they say
dress to impress. Learn to compliment and accept one as well. Maintain eye contact and
smile.
 Posture is key. Keep your back straight, walk and sit with poise. Be confident, but humble. They are
not mutually exclusive. What you say is important, but how you say it is much more important
Oral communication- Public Speaking
 Mind your content. Content of what you say is extremely crucial. Know what you want and
why you want it. What you are doing is important, but why you are doing will help the
audience connect with you on a personal level.
 Rehearse- talk to a friend, as many people as you can when you have started your initiative and learn
the flaws of your plan. Perfect them. And ideal pitch doesn’t come instantaneously, like any other skill
it requires practice.
Written Communication
 Follow up the conversion you had via email
 Keep it short and succinct. Remind them who you are, what you spoke about, point out something
interesting that you spoke about and what is your follow up on that. Propose to have a quick chat
about something at a convenient date or a meeting. If nothing, just send them an email saying that
you had thoroughly enjoyed speaking to them and look forward to staying in contact. Let them come
to you with proposals of when and where to take the next step.
 Once you have established a working relationship, you send them an abstract of your project. Ask for
their opinion on it. Ask them to critique. Don’t ask for money.
Phone calls- Only call someone if you have spoken to them in person beforehand. Don’t follow up an in
person conversion over phone. Call them if they want something from you. Shows that you are prompt in
responding. Unless there is an emergency, avoid calling someone you have only communicated via email.

  • 3. At the outset, I would like to thank the Almighty Allah for His never ending grace, mercy and provision in all our success. I am very delighted to get the opportunity to present you our regular monthly bulletin “Horizon” in the month of August ,2018 for the Rota Year 2018-19. I humbly convey my gratefulness to our president Rtr. Md Rabiul Hossain for giving me the responsibility of Editor. Heartiest gratitude goes to the IPP, VP, secretary, Treasurer, Four Service Directors, all the members of our club and also all the stakeholders for their relentless support. Why Horizon? As the word implies, Rotaract Club Of Chittagong South is stepping into its 14th year successfully and reaching the Horizon of success in the rotaracting arena by creating a significant momentum in terms of uniqueness, professionalism and community engagement. By dint of our unison and commitment, we will eventually be driving towards new height. To publish this issue, I put my diligence effort to include list of new board who lead us 2018-19 rota year, and brief recap of all club activities through pictorial presentation. Besides, writing about the perfect pitch and observation of Mandela Month is also included in this issue. The whole process of compiling the bulletin was so hurting. It may contain omissions and other typographical errors for which I humbly accept liability and seek apology. Regards Rtr. Md. Ashadul Alam Editor Rotaract Club of Chittagong South HORIZON

In 18th July 2018, We did different activities for celebrating the 100th birthday of Noble Peace Prize Award Winner Mr. Nelson Mandela by conducting different activities, falling in line with Mr. Mandela's vision throughout the month of July as last year. It was a joint project hosted by Rotaract Club of Mumbai Shivaji Park. In this Rotary Year 2018-19, We started the Mandela Week celebration by passing time with orphan children in an orphanage. We visited an orphanage and there we did Three (3) activities and project naming: 1) “Quran recitation Competition” 2) Distributed Food Parcel among the orphan children's. 3) Distributed some toys among the Children's of orphanage. That was our starting project of Mandela Week celebration 2018. In the next day we did another project “Donate Your Skill”. Our club International Service Director Rtr. • 6. The Perfect Pitch (Rtr. Md. Ashadul Alam) What is pitch? A pitch is the 15 seconds presentation that you make to hook your audience to want to know more about you, your project and your ideas. Types of Communication-  Interpersonal communication – Speaking to one or a small group where you disclose as much or as little about yourself, your project and your ideas. Mostly done in social gatherings and networking events.  Nonverbal communication – your attire, gesture, posture, mannerisms etc.  Oral communication – Public Speaking & Written Communication – Emails, Text Messages. Interpersonal communication-  Research your audience – know what they can offer, have clear idea of what you want from them. Know whether you want them to fund your projects or invest in your dream or give you a job or otherwise. Have clear understanding of what you want so that you can communicate clearly.  Prioritize whom you want to speak to. Make sure whomever you are reaching out to can offer you something.  Ask inquisitive questions. Show genuine interest in them. People love talking about themselves.  Never ever ask for money. Exchange contact if that is an option. Always follow up  Be courteous and mind your etiquette. This means no phone. Keep the selfies to a minimum.  Time management is a key. Do not linger for long. Speak for a few minutes, leave on a high note. Nonverbal communication-  Dress well- dress for the job you want , not the one you have. And there is a reason they say dress to impress. Learn to compliment and accept one as well. Maintain eye contact and smile.  Posture is key. Keep your back straight, walk and sit with poise. Be confident, but humble. They are not mutually exclusive. What you say is important, but how you say it is much more important Oral communication- Public Speaking  Mind your content. Content of what you say is extremely crucial. Know what you want and why you want it. What you are doing is important, but why you are doing will help the audience connect with you on a personal level.  Rehearse- talk to a friend, as many people as you can when you have started your initiative and learn the flaws of your plan. Perfect them. And ideal pitch doesn’t come instantaneously, like any other skill it requires practice. Written Communication  Follow up the conversion you had via email  Keep it short and succinct. Remind them who you are, what you spoke about, point out something interesting that you spoke about and what is your follow up on that. Propose to have a quick chat about something at a convenient date or a meeting. If nothing, just send them an email saying that you had thoroughly enjoyed speaking to them and look forward to staying in contact. Let them come to you with proposals of when and where to take the next step.  Once you have established a working relationship, you send them an abstract of your project. Ask for their opinion on it. Ask them to critique. Don’t ask for money. Phone calls- Only call someone if you have spoken to them in person beforehand. Don’t follow up an in person conversion over phone. Call them if they want something from you. Shows that you are prompt in responding. Unless there is an emergency, avoid calling someone you have only communicated via email. HORIZON
