Mahigit isang daang mga katawan ang nakitang nakahandusay sa kalsada ng
Tacloban City sa Leyte matapos itong hagupitin ng Super Typhoon Yolanda nitong
Biyernes.
"100-plus dead, lying in the streets, with 100 plus injured…this report was relayed to
us by our station manager so it is considered very reliable information," pahayag ni
Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines deputy director general John Andrews sa
isang panayam sa telebisyon.
"According to the station manager, the airport is completely ruined,” dagdag pa nito,
matapos tanggapin ang ulat ng opisyal nang magkaroon ito ng pagkakataon na
tumawag sa head office sa Manila gamit ang isang high-frequency radio.
Hinagupit ng Bagyong Yolanda ang Leyte at ang karatig nitong probinsiya na Samar
na may lakas ng hanging umaabot sa 315 kilometro kada oras. Ang super typhoon na
ito ang itinalang pinakamalakas ng bagyo sa buong mundo ngayon taon.
Simula nang hagupitin ng Bagyong Yolanda ang Eastern Visayas noong Biyernes,
wala nang komunikasyon mula sa mga taga-Leyte at Samar dahil nasira ang mga
cellsite.
