MAJOR COMPETITORS
The online real estate space in India has been witnessing a lot of
investor interest since past few months. According to the data
available, in past 9 months, over $300 Mn of investment has come
into the real estate space, with over half of being raised in the last 3
months.
Recently, Housing.Com raised $100 Mn From SoftBank and existing
investors, Commonfloor raised INR 64 Cr(roughly $10 Mn) and a $30
Mn Series E led by its existing investor Tiger Global.
With over $120 Bn in revenues, the real estate market is Huge. The
huge market opportunity which this sector offers has made the real
estate space in India crowded with the existence of a number of
players, thus the competition among the players is pretty much
evident.
99acres, Housing.com, MagicBricks, Commonfloor, Indiaproperty, M
akaan are the few players who are dominating the the real estate
sector in the country.
The data shows that MagicBricks has maintained a clear leadership
position on reach as well engagement metrics.
On reach metrics – daily visits, monthly visits, and unique visitors
MagicBricks is nearly 2x the reach of 99Acres, and captures more
visits than 99Acres and CommonFloor combined.
On engagement metrics – total minutes, page views, visits per
visitor, MagicBricks is now leading in all metrics, though by thinner
margins.
It is surprising to see that despite of number of funding rounds that
CommonFloor and Housing have been able to secure has a very little
impact on the traction on their platform. 75% of all consumer time is
spent between MagicBricks and 99Acres, with the next 4 players
splitting the balance of 25%.
It earns revenue from Advertising and Listing fees. It provides
additional features like luxury section of their website, personalised
services and other value added services like Vaastu, Astrology
involving a one-time fee.
“We have a robust commercial model where bulk of the revenue
comes from builders and brokers for listing properties, for banners
and other kinds of advertising. Free listing is available for
individuals” - Mr. Sudhir Pai, Business Head of MagicBricks.
Property portal Magic-Bricks.com has reported a revenue growth of
53% for the first half of the current financial year despite the overall
sluggishness in the real estate market. The company has also seen a
sharpBSE -5.00 % growth in listings during this period, up from
700,000 at the beginning of April to over a million listing by the end
of September 2015.
Listings on the MagicBricks portal have a shelf life of 60 days after
which they auto-expire, which ensures all outdated listings are
removed. The portal currently sees close to 24,000 listings being
posted daily. Sudhir Pai,CEO of MagicBricks said the company
expects its topline to cross the Rs 150 crore mark this year. “We’re
delighted that we have built a rock solid business with strong unit
economics and a market leadership position,” he said.
MagicBricks, which is owned by Times Internet Ltd, currently has a
32% traffic market share, with its closest competitor at 25% market
share. Different portals, however, use different yardsticks to measure
traffic. Pai said there different ways to look at traffic — in the form of
visits, page views, time spent etc. “For a classifieds business, we think
it is important to help the user discover the information he seeks by
navigating the least number of pages. We therefore don’t think that
page views are a good indicator of preference or engagement of the
consumer, which is why we choose to measure traffic market share on
the basis of total visits,” he said.
The website, which is among the top property sites in the country
today, claims that this year, the number of paying customers would
exceed 30,000. This would include brokers and developers but
exclude consumers or owners who buy premium listings online.
COMPANY INITIATIVES
Magicbricks with IIM Bangalore launched the Housing Sentiment
Index. In thiscollaboration of two leaders from Academia and
Industry- the co-branded “MB-IIMBHousing Sentiment Index”, is all
set to capture the “buyer’s mood” on the real estatescenario in India.

According to the data available, in past 9 months, over $300 Mn of investment has come into the real estate space, with over half of being raised in the last 3 months.

The data shows that MagicBricks has maintained a clear leadership position on reach as well engagement metrics. On reach metrics – daily visits, monthly visits, and unique visitors MagicBricks is nearly 2x the reach of 99Acres, and captures more visits than 99Acres and CommonFloor combined.

  • 12. Property portal Magic-Bricks.com has reported a revenue growth of 53% for the first half of the current financial year despite the overall sluggishness in the real estate market. The company has also seen a sharpBSE -5.00 % growth in listings during this period, up from 700,000 at the beginning of April to over a million listing by the end of September 2015. Listings on the MagicBricks portal have a shelf life of 60 days after which they auto-expire, which ensures all outdated listings are removed. The portal currently sees close to 24,000 listings being posted daily. Sudhir Pai,CEO of MagicBricks said the company expects its topline to cross the Rs 150 crore mark this year. “We’re delighted that we have built a rock solid business with strong unit economics and a market leadership position,” he said. MagicBricks, which is owned by Times Internet Ltd, currently has a 32% traffic market share, with its closest competitor at 25% market share. Different portals, however, use different yardsticks to measure traffic. Pai said there different ways to look at traffic — in the form of visits, page views, time spent etc. “For a classifieds business, we think it is important to help the user discover the information he seeks by navigating the least number of pages. We therefore don’t think that page views are a good indicator of preference or engagement of the consumer, which is why we choose to measure traffic market share on the basis of total visits,” he said. The website, which is among the top property sites in the country today, claims that this year, the number of paying customers would exceed 30,000. This would include brokers and developers but exclude consumers or owners who buy premium listings online.
