Electrical cars:
1. Just as there are a variety of technologies available in
conventional vehicles, plug-in electric vehicles (also known
as electric cars or EVs) have different capabilities that can
accommodate different drivers’ needs.
2. A major feature of EVs is that drivers can plug them in to
charge from an off-board electric power source.
3. This distinguishes them from hybrid electric vehicles, which
supplement an internal combustion engine with battery
power but cannot be plugged in.
4. All-electric vehicles (AEVs) run only on electricity. Most have
all-electric ranges of 80 to 100 miles, while a few luxury
models have ranges up to 250 miles.
Benefits:
•Reduced Pollution:
The transportation sector is now the largest source of carbon
dioxide emissions in India.
The continued integration of EVs will help reduce this impact
because they produce 54 percent less carbon dioxide emissions
per mile than a conventional vehicle.
•Cost Savings:
EV batteries convert 59 to 62 percent of energy into vehicle
movement while gas powered vehicles use 17 and 21 percent.
•Economic Growth:
Using Electric Vehicles can reduce our energy dependency
abroad and support the India economy through the generation
of new jobs, particularly in skilled electrical trades.

What Is An Electric Car?
An electric car is just a car propelled by one or more electric motors using
energy stored in rechargeable batteries, instead of burning petrol or diesel
internally and exhausting fumes.
There are broadly three kinds of electric cars at present:
1)Solar-powered electric cars and vehicles.
2)Hybrid electric cars powered by a mix of internal combustion and batteries.
3)Electric cars with on-board battery packs also known as battery electric
vehicle (BEV).
The Indian electric vechiles market is at a very nascent stage
comprising of only 1% of the total automobile sales.
The EV market in india was about 25,000 units at the end of
2016-17 and 56,000 units at the end of 2017-18.
4,300 EV’s were sold in gujarat, 2846 in west bengal, 2467 in
uttar pradesh and 2388 in rajasthan during the year 2016-17.
Target of 400,000 passenger battery electric cars(BEV’s) by
2020 and avoiding 120 million barrels of oil, 4 million tons of
co2.
Total investement required – INR 20,000-23,000 cr(approx 3
billion USD)

Better for the environment
•Less pollution:
By choosing to
drive an EV you are helping to
reduce harmful air pollution
from exhaust emissions.
An EV has zero exhaust emissions
•Low running cost:
we are not paying for petrol
and diesel to keep our car
running so,you can save lot
of money on fuel.
Low Maintanence:
• Petrol and diesel engines can
require expensive engine
maintenance over their lifetimes –
electric vehicles don’t.
•Maintaining an electric car is easy
and economic. because of no fluid
changes(engine oil
•Charge intervals will be minimal if
you travel daily a few Kms.
• Eco friendly and futuristic.
conventional engine over
electric engine:
•electric motors react quickly, EVs
are very responsive and have very
good torque.
•Low noise. because there's no
fossil engine. Less stressful drive
as Ev's do not vibrate like fossil cars.
•Cars can last for 16 lac kms,
whereas the best fossil car lasts for 5
lac kms. So twice the usage.
•You can pre-cool your car in the
summer and pre-heat it in the winter
without running your engine.

IMPLEMENTATION OF ELECTRIC CAR IN INDIA
Electric cars are growing in popularity, but with that popularity comes
a number of complaints.
This includes issues with build quality and electrical systems, both
the E-Tron and the Niro EV lost their recommended status.
Electric car don’t just have the potential to be unreliable. Most also
depreciate faster than gasoline-powered vehicle.
Charging an electric car can be challenging.
It’s much easier to gas up a car and get
back on the road than it’s to charge an electric
car.
While gassing up a car takes only few
minutes, charging an electric car can take
hours.
Not all car owners have access to the
infrastructure needed to charge an electric
car.
EV’s are usually more expensive than gas-
powered cars.
It can sometimes be difficult to find a
charging station.

Shifting to E-Vehicles is the most
inevitable change that we have to make to
save our environment. Here are some
solutions to reduce the constraints of
implementing Electric Cars in India .
 Like electric trains obtaining their power from the
overhead cables, we can alter our main roads such
that they can provide electric power supply to the cars
moving on it. This will limit the time constraint which
we were worried about.
 We can set up solar power producers on our empty
terraces especially for the purpose of charging our
cars .This may be a good solution to the problem of
limited renewable resources to generate electricity.
 People don’t have much interest in E-vehicles as it
cant be repaired very easily . So the government can
setup a Quality maintenance Organisation in each
districts .This may also solve the problem of
unemployed engineers.
Engineering projects of electrical and electronic engineers must focus
mainly on building the components for electric cars to reduce the import
of parts which will make the cost of the cars more affordable.
Hybrid cars can be used at the beginning to bring belief among the
people initially which may slowly pave the way for era of electric vehicles
. This will also reduce the battery range constraint.
Underground battery recharging stations can be made to reduce he
parking space problems while charging the cars during their immobile
state.

DISADVANTAGES OF ELECTIC VEHICLES
RANGE CONSTRAINTS :
•Electric Vehicles are fixed for a specific range, they can’t go
beyond that. Most Electric vehicles can cover a range of
100KM. If someone wants to go for a long ride they need a
backup battery. However, research is going onto improve the
range of electric vehicles.
CHARGING STATIONS:
•In countries like India, very few EV charging stations are
available. Main cities have charging stations . Some
thousands of charging stations should be set up all around
the country to reduce the security of charging stations.
DISADVANTAGES OF ELECTRIC CARS
 The major disadvantages of EV’s is that battery has to be
changed regularly. The normal working range of battery is about
50-130 miles and it takes about 6-8 hours to recharge completely.
If you are travelling a long distance, you may be at the risk of the
battery getting discharged. As such there are no battery charging
stations available on roads and highways.
Your home must be outfitted with a charging station to recharge
the car battery.
Your electric bill will probably increase as you have to draw power
from your home electrical system to charge your car.
Electric cars cannot compete with gas powered cars in terms of
speed and acceleration.

All-electric vehicles (AEVs) run only on electricity. Most have all-electric ranges of 80 to 100 miles, while a few luxury models have ranges up to 250 miles.
  • 4. Benefits: •Reduced Pollution: The transportation sector is now the largest source of carbon dioxide emissions in India. The continued integration of EVs will help reduce this impact because they produce 54 percent less carbon dioxide emissions per mile than a conventional vehicle. •Cost Savings: EV batteries convert 59 to 62 percent of energy into vehicle movement while gas powered vehicles use 17 and 21 percent. •Economic Growth: Using Electric Vehicles can reduce our energy dependency abroad and support the India economy through the generation of new jobs, particularly in skilled electrical trades.

  • 6. What Is An Electric Car? An electric car is just a car propelled by one or more electric motors using energy stored in rechargeable batteries, instead of burning petrol or diesel internally and exhausting fumes. There are broadly three kinds of electric cars at present: 1)Solar-powered electric cars and vehicles. 2)Hybrid electric cars powered by a mix of internal combustion and batteries. 3)Electric cars with on-board battery packs also known as battery electric vehicle (BEV).
  • 7. The Indian electric vechiles market is at a very nascent stage comprising of only 1% of the total automobile sales. The EV market in india was about 25,000 units at the end of 2016-17 and 56,000 units at the end of 2017-18. 4,300 EV’s were sold in gujarat, 2846 in west bengal, 2467 in uttar pradesh and 2388 in rajasthan during the year 2016-17. Target of 400,000 passenger battery electric cars(BEV’s) by 2020 and avoiding 120 million barrels of oil, 4 million tons of co2. Total investement required – INR 20,000-23,000 cr(approx 3 billion USD) Current status of E-Vechile in India

  • 9. Better for the environment •Less pollution: By choosing to drive an EV you are helping to reduce harmful air pollution from exhaust emissions. An EV has zero exhaust emissions •Low running cost: we are not paying for petrol and diesel to keep our car running so,you can save lot of money on fuel.
  • 10. Low Maintanence: • Petrol and diesel engines can require expensive engine maintenance over their lifetimes – electric vehicles don’t. •Maintaining an electric car is easy and economic. because of no fluid changes(engine oil •Charge intervals will be minimal if you travel daily a few Kms. • Eco friendly and futuristic. conventional engine over electric engine: •electric motors react quickly, EVs are very responsive and have very good torque.
  • 11. •Low noise. because there's no fossil engine. Less stressful drive as Ev's do not vibrate like fossil cars. •Cars can last for 16 lac kms, whereas the best fossil car lasts for 5 lac kms. So twice the usage. •You can pre-cool your car in the summer and pre-heat it in the winter without running your engine.

  • 13. IMPLEMENTATION OF ELECTRIC CAR IN INDIA Electric cars are growing in popularity, but with that popularity comes a number of complaints. This includes issues with build quality and electrical systems, both the E-Tron and the Niro EV lost their recommended status. Electric car don’t just have the potential to be unreliable. Most also depreciate faster than gasoline-powered vehicle.
  • 14. Charging an electric car can be challenging. It’s much easier to gas up a car and get back on the road than it’s to charge an electric car. While gassing up a car takes only few minutes, charging an electric car can take hours. Not all car owners have access to the infrastructure needed to charge an electric car. EV’s are usually more expensive than gas- powered cars. It can sometimes be difficult to find a charging station.

  • 16. Shifting to E-Vehicles is the most inevitable change that we have to make to save our environment. Here are some solutions to reduce the constraints of implementing Electric Cars in India .  Like electric trains obtaining their power from the overhead cables, we can alter our main roads such that they can provide electric power supply to the cars moving on it. This will limit the time constraint which we were worried about.  We can set up solar power producers on our empty terraces especially for the purpose of charging our cars .This may be a good solution to the problem of limited renewable resources to generate electricity.  People don’t have much interest in E-vehicles as it cant be repaired very easily . So the government can setup a Quality maintenance Organisation in each districts .This may also solve the problem of unemployed engineers.
  • 17. Engineering projects of electrical and electronic engineers must focus mainly on building the components for electric cars to reduce the import of parts which will make the cost of the cars more affordable. Hybrid cars can be used at the beginning to bring belief among the people initially which may slowly pave the way for era of electric vehicles . This will also reduce the battery range constraint. Underground battery recharging stations can be made to reduce he parking space problems while charging the cars during their immobile state.

  • 19. DISADVANTAGES OF ELECTIC VEHICLES RANGE CONSTRAINTS : •Electric Vehicles are fixed for a specific range, they can’t go beyond that. Most Electric vehicles can cover a range of 100KM. If someone wants to go for a long ride they need a backup battery. However, research is going onto improve the range of electric vehicles. CHARGING STATIONS: •In countries like India, very few EV charging stations are available. Main cities have charging stations . Some thousands of charging stations should be set up all around the country to reduce the security of charging stations.
  • 20. DISADVANTAGES OF ELECTRIC CARS  The major disadvantages of EV’s is that battery has to be changed regularly. The normal working range of battery is about 50-130 miles and it takes about 6-8 hours to recharge completely. If you are travelling a long distance, you may be at the risk of the battery getting discharged. As such there are no battery charging stations available on roads and highways. Your home must be outfitted with a charging station to recharge the car battery. Your electric bill will probably increase as you have to draw power from your home electrical system to charge your car. Electric cars cannot compete with gas powered cars in terms of speed and acceleration.
