Danger of computer exposure can be divided into 2
categories;
1. Behaviour problem ;
Addiction-
 Foster social isolation.
 Irritable when away from computer
 Declines in verbal memory performance
Attention problems
 physically aggressive behavior
 hyperactivity, ADD or ADHD
Emotional disorder symptoms –
 Depression (online opinion )
Recognizing Computer Addiction
Any of these signs would be a red flag, and multiple signs could
mean there's a real problem.
•Staying on the computer for much longer than intended, or not
noticing the passage of time while using the computer
•Making conscious efforts to cut back on computer time and
repeatedly failing
•Thinking frequently about the computer when not using it or
constantly looking forward to the next opportunity to use it
•Using the computer as an escape when feeling depressed or
stressed
•Missing events or opportunities or failing at non-computer-
related tasks because of time spent on the computer. This could
include poor job performance or missing out on family activities
•Continued excessive computer use despite incurring negative
consequences, such as marital problems or getting in trouble at
work due to computer use.
Computer Addiction and Child Neglect

One of the most notorious examples of a
computer addiction surfaced in Nevada in
2007. Michael and Iana Straw had two young
children who were neglected to the point of
malnourishment and serious health
problems because the couple was so
obsessed with playing online games
(Dungeons & Dragons). They were each
charged with multiple counts of child abuse
[source: Fox News]. A similar case occurred
in South Korea in 2005, when two parents
left a 4-month-old infant alone in a bedroom
to play computer games (World of Warcraft.)
at an Internet café. When they returned five
hours later, the baby was lying on her
stomach and had died of suffocation.
[source: Eurogamer].
Kids who watch violent
television shows become
more aggressive and less
empathic. But learning
theory says that actually
participating in violence
— as kids do when playing
many video and computer
games — has a much
stronger effect.
2. Health problem;
a) Direct
 Bad Posture
 Back Pain
 Shoulder cramps
 Blurred eyesight
 Repetitive strain injury
 Short bursts of excruciating pain in the
arm, back, shoulders, wrists, hands, or thumbs
    (typically diffuse).
 Weakness, lack of endurance.
 Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)
 De Quervain syndrome
Slouching, not sitting
correctly in your chair, or
not having your two feet
touch the ground are
incorrect.
Your computer monitor
should be eye level or
slightly lower.
Your wrists should be
raised form the keyboard
and mouse to the right of
your keyboard.
Shoulders downward and
back help make your back
straight.
b) Indirect
poor overall physical condition and even
  obesity.
Long-term sleep deprivation- Significant
  reduced amounts of slow-wave (REM)
  sleep
 Drowsiness
 difficulty concentrating
 depression of the immune system
Radiation exposure
Cancer or brain tumor
birth defects
Infertility or miscarriages
Nausea
COMPUTER RADIATION HAZARDS
When you sit in front of a computer screen, you are being hit by
many different types of electromagnetic radiations (EMR).
Computers emit both VLF (Very Low Frequency)
electromagnetic radiation and ELF (Extremely Low Frequency)
electromagnetic radiation, as well as soft x-rays.
As with all EMF Pollution, the closer in proximity to the
source, as well as the longer the duration of time in the EMF
Field, the more detrimental the electromagnetic frequencies
upon the body.
ERGONOMICS
Ergonomics is the applied science of equipment design, as for the
workplace, intended to maximize productivity by reducing operator fatigue and
discomfort. In other words, ergonomics is the science of making yourself feel
comfortable and relaxed to be able to do better at work and reduce the possibility
of having injuries in any manner.
  • There are 5 different aspects of ergonomics. They are:
  • Safety
  • Comfort
  • Ease of Use
  • Productivity/Performance
  • Aesthetics
Proper ergonomic design is necessary to prevent repetitive strain injuries, which
can develop over time and can lead to long-term disability.
Bilaterally symmetric operating areas of
 the stationary human body

Sitting correctly in a chair with
your back straight helps relieve all
back problems.
Keeping your neck straight
forward at your monitor relives neck
and cramps in your shoulders.
Having both feet on the ground
keeps a good center of balance.
•Make specific time limits. Set an alarm to go off in one hour and end
computer time when it rings.
•Set aside "computer-free" parts of the day. If your computer use starts after
dinner and extends into the night, get all your computer work done in the
morning and don't touch it after dinner.
•Install software to restrict your access to Web sites that you visit
compulsively. Find a friend you can trust to keep the passwords for the
software so you can't circumvent it.

 Wellnomics® Risk Management
 is scientifically validated office
 ergonomics software.
•Make a list of things you could be accomplishing
instead of wasting time on the computer, and post it
prominently near your monitor.
•Enlist family members to help encourage you to limit
your use. It might be difficult to stop on your own.
•Put the computer in high-traffic area of the house. With
others looking over your shoulder all the time, you'll be less
likely to overuse the computer. This is especially effective for
parents who fear excessive computer use in their children.
•Radiation from the computer screen can be blocked by
special screen monitor shields.
THANK
 YOU

Editor's Notes

  1. Constant computer gaming can cause someone to place more emotional value on events within the game than things happening in their real lives. Excessive viewing of Internet pornography can warp a person's ideas about sexuality.
