Field development plan, rate of production,

  1. 1. Field Development Plan, Rate of Production, Oil Recovery By Syed Nawaz M.Tech Petroleum Exploration and Production Delta Studies Institute Andhra University
  2. 2. Content • Introduction (Field Development Plan, Rate of Production, Oil Recovery) – Acquiring maximum reservoir area – Maintaining reservoir properties – Recovery techniques selection criteria • Reference
  3. 3. Introduction • The objective of field development plan is to increase the rate of production • How we can develop the field: – Acquire maximum reservoir area (number of wells) – Maintain reservoir properties (avoid development of void space) – Pressure maintenance with the help of recovery techniques
  4. 4. Acquiring maximum area of a Reservoir • Estimate the total recoverable reserves of a Reservoir (condition is it should be commercially viable) • Base on above data estimate the life of a reservoir, meanwhile plan the number of wells to be drilled for extracting the HC within a required time. • Note: some times the life of a reservoir is also decided by the regulatory bodies of a respected countries (tax concession issued from national oil policy (countries)).
  5. 5. Reservoir Area
  6. 6. Maintaining reservoir properties • Reservoir properties includes rock and fluid properties of a reservoir • The major properties which has to be maintain are as follows: – Pressure (reservoir (void space) and pore pressure): this leads to • Permeability heterogeneity • Alteration in the reservoir area • Reservoir damage (decrease in fracture pressure of a reservoir). – This leads to migration of HC from the reservoir • Note: to maintain the aforementioned properties the recovery techniques are to be used.
  7. 7. Recovery techniques • Primary recovery (artificial lifts) • Secondary recovery (injection wells) • Enhanced oil recovery (?)
  8. 8. Maintaining rate of production • DST • Hydraulic fracturing (Propants) • Acidizing • Control of sand production (Gravel packing, Resin injection) • Drawdown and Buildup (aim to maintain K and access of damage (time))
