Managing waste is one of daunting problems. This presentation is an approach to make the waste management system more sustainable and easily acceptable.
3. Sustainable waste management system is an efficient way
to minimize the hazards or pollution caused by wastes.
Sustainable waste management means using material
resources efficiently to cut down the amount of wastes
produced and where waste is generated, dealing with it in
a way that actively contributes to the economic, social
and environmental goals of sustainable development.

nagement
5. Classification of
waste
.
Municipal waste Industrial waste Biomedical waste
• Household waste,
construction and
demolition debris,
sanitation residue.
• Garbage is about
four categories-
Organic waste,
Toxic waste,
Recyclable, WTE
• (Waste To Energy)
• Hazardous waste
• Corrosive, highly
inflammable, or
explosive; and
Toxic.
• Harmful gases –
CO, CO2 ,SO2,
NO2,
• Petrochemicals,
Fertilizers.
• Infectious waste
• Sharps, soiled waste
, disposables,
anatomical waste,
cultures, discarded
medicines, chemical
wastes etc.
• Disposable syringes,
swabs, bandages,
body fluids, human
excreta etc.
6. E-Wast
e
Electronic waste or e-waste describes
discarded electrical or electronic
devices. Used electronics which are
destined for reuse, resale, salvage,
recycling, or disposal are also
considered e-waste.
11. • Improve the sustainability of the system. Collect the wastes in
two separate bins where organic and inorganic wastes will be
collected from household and other sources of wastes.
• The organic waste will be used further as raw materials of fertilizers
by sending them to the fertilizer industries and for producing food
for domestic animals as well as it could be used in the biogas plants
by recycling in proper controlled processes.
• The rest of the inorganic wastes will be sent to the selected
dumping stations and where it will be easier to find out the recycled
renewable and hazardous part of the inorganic solid waste.

13. • Open air dumping creates unhygienic and possess
enormous threat to the people.
• Causes aesthetic problem and nuisance due to nauseating
pungent odor.
• As all sorts of wastes are gathered together, it is very
difficult to separate the recyclable materials.
• Hazardous and toxic wastes dumped in the landfills
contaminate soil and ground water.
• Toxic and heavy metals are mixing into the food chain.

14. Conclusio
n
. Waste problem is one of the burning issue. In order to meet the goal
of sustainability we must take up a fruitful action as soon as possible.
Clean environment leads to a better life and which will take us to our
development goal, so this should be started from now on, may be
from our kitchen first.
All these actions will go in vein until we are aware by ourselves as
well as give proper education to the people of our surroundings to
make the best use of waste bins, try to produce wastes to the least, and
dump wastes in a scientific way.
