Technologies and Websites We used numerous technological programmes and websites during the process of completing and evaluating our thriller
Tripod During one of our lessons we were taught different ways of using the tripod. This meant we knew different angles and shots which we could use to improve the outcome of our thriller. Some of the main shots which we used were the pan shot, steady shot and tilt shot. As we became more comfortable with the tripod we developed in its usage by maybe using a tilt and a panshot at the same time to improve ourthriller.
DV Digital Camera This camera was used to film all of our footage for our thriller. It was also used during our other filming such as our interviews and preliminary task and our spider diagram. We will be using the same camera again soon when we film our audience research for our thriller. We have had a lot of practise using these and soon got used to them. We learnt how to upload everything we filmed onto the computers. We also learnt quickly how to do different zoom shots whether they are slow or fast. Put together with the tripod we had various shots which we could use in our thriller.
Still Camera Whilst filming we also used still camera’s these were used two different ways. We used our own camera to take photographs of scenery before filming to get a rough idea of the surroundings. We also used these to photograph when we was filming as so we could update our blogs and illustrate them with our progress. We also used to school still camera to take photo’s of our storyboard once we had completed it.
Apple Mac Computer The Apple mar computer worked very different to any computer which I have used before, it took some time getting used to as there was not print screen button and I often had to be reminded of how to do this. Also as the mouse had no right click it meant many simple tasks such as copy and pasting become more complex and took a while to understand how this could be overcome. However they were faster than most computers and allowed us to improve our thriller.
     www.blogger.com Blogger is an online site which every media student creates. Each individual has their own IP address for example mine is, www.sarahwarnockrc.blogspot.com The blogs are used as a diary which we kept updated to show our understanding of the term thriller. Also writing about things which we had done in class. Our blogs can be visited by anyone around the world who may be interest which means I am also able to visit class members blogs and read what they have done and their different ideas. I believe I have regularly updated my blog and am pleased with its outcome.
Slide share This website enables you to take an ordinary PowerPoint and upload it to slide share so that you can publish it to website as a slideshow/ This has been quite affective and shows the slideshow to a high standard. However I had some trouble with it as PowerPoint’s have been failing to upload, but the problem soon fixed itself.Below is a previous slideshow which I published with slide share;
www.wordle.net This is a fun way to present information which I obtained during my target audience research on survey monkey. It displayed the words in an imaginative form, the bigger the word was, the more times which it had been written. The website was very simple to use and very efficient. There were many designs applicable, however I liked to chose to more simple designs.
www.surveymonkey.com On this website I created a survey to find out more information on thrillers and who a suitable target audience for my thriller could be. It was very simple to use as it was only a matter of thinking of a question and typing it. It was also easy to distribute my questionnaire on social network sites to gain results to make my target audience research effective.
OneTrueMedia.com This was used on numerous occasions to upload a slide show type video of pictures. I used it to show different images for different tasks. Using images was more simple than trying to describe in words certain things.
www.youtube.com All members of our group have previously used Youtube which meant it was not difficult for us to understand. It became very useful to us when we was uploading different footage such as our preliminary task, our ident and our thriller. By using Youtube it meant that people could see our video’s and comment on them giving us feedback on what we could maybe change or improve.
Mobygratis This was a site which would of enables ud to download music for our thriller with permission. Each member of my group signed up to use this and we asked permission for a few different tracks however eventually we settled for music from another website. Mobygratis was simple to use and there was a wide variety of music to chose from.
Newgrounds This is where we decided to download our music for our thriller from. There were thousands of different songs to chose from each under a different genre. This made our search for music simple as we could look under keywords.
Livetype Livetype was used to put animated texts together. It was also used to make our ident, which was where the writing flies in above the little robot type image. This software took some getting used to and I often asked questions about it.
Photoshop We created the still image for our ident on this before we put it on Livetype. I myself did nor use it properly as I could not grasp how it worked. However another group member has used it before and had a great understanding of the programme.
Garageband Garageband was very simple to use as it was only a matter of pressing keys and trying to make a tune. We used this when we was thinking what music to use for our ident.
IMovie We only used this once to place the music over our indent, but we found this quite hard. Eventually after gaining help from another group member we figures out together how it worked.
Final Cut Express This was used to place together all of our footage and we used it for all of our editing. It was very simple to use, however our editing for our thriller was better than that for our preliminary exercise, as when we used the programme our skills were slowly developing, meaning the last thing we edited, was better than the first.
Skills I have gained I believe that I have gained many skills during this project. I have learnt how to use the Imac computers and the programmes on them very efficiently. I think I have made the best progress with Garageband and Final Cut Express as these are what I used the most. Also I have discovered a wide variety of websites and have learnt different ways of producing information. Finally I think using the camera and coming up with new ideas has helped my team working skills. Using the camera was fun and has been a new experience.
