• Proofreading is the careful
reading and re-reading of a (yet
to be finally-released)
document to detect errors.
• Editing is the arranging, revising
and preparing material for final
production. The object of
editing is to remove any factual,
grammatical and typographical
errors: Clarification of obscure
passages and elimination of
parts not suitable to audience,
proper sequencing to achieve a
smooth narrative

3. Tip #1 Sweep
• Do one error set at a time – eg punctuation,
grammar, spelling, tense consistency

4. Tip #2 Read out loud and slowly
• One sentence at a time

5. Tip #3 Read from end to beginning
• Start at the bottom of the page and read backwards

6. Tip #4 Take a break
• Edit in short segments

7. Tip #5 Do it three times
• Proof read the same document three times and at
least once with a partner
