Impacting Element for Effective Mission Statement

  1. 1. Impacting Element for Effective Mission Statement
  2. 2. In agile, vision and mission are used as the most powerful management and marketing tools. Many consider vision and mission statement as the one and same thing but they both are different that bring a different output for the organizations. Even though they are different their elements are combined to provide a statement of the organization's goals, values, and purpose. We have already seen what vision statements are used for and what are their most impacting key elements to create them for obtaining inspiring and motivating statements. In this article, we will discuss what a mission statement is in agile businesses, and what its key elements are to obtain an effective mission statement.
  3. 3. What is Mission Statement? It is a statement that shows your objectives, business values, and approach to reach them. It states the organization's core brand positioning and uniqueness that makes the organization apart from its competitors. It involves reflection of the organization in every dimension, the service or product it provides, and the value proposition the organization has to offer. To write an effective mission statement it is necessary to be aware of the answer below questions. · What are your organization's core values? · Who is your target audience? · What image did you want to create and sustain as an organization in the industry? · What uniqueness does an organization have from its competitors?
  4. 4. Impacting Elements for Effective Mission Statements Keep it Short and Simple Customers never want buzzwords and fluff statements. They are there to know what they are getting themselves into. So the mission statement should be always simple and short, providing a clear message about what the organization is about and values the most. It should mostly be focusing on covering all the aspect organization provides. Be Sure of Short-Term Vs. Long-Term Goal Being specific about the mission statement is what provides the most influence. Being clear on whether to reflect short-term goals or long-term goals in your mission statement gives different benefits. The short term includes a vision more specific about your goals whereas, long-term goals provide the bigger picture organization is trying to reach. In the short-term goals, statements need a regular update.
  5. 5. Review it Often Many times the mission statement is written and forgotten with time once created along with organization formation. The mission statement is an important representation of company culture and values, it provides a sense of identity, and it should be continuously maintained and referred to. Must Consist Substance and Value The mission statement should be a substance instead of vague. No customer wants to get confused with buzzy words being unclear as to what the organization wants to say. Instead, having a simple, clear, and down-to-earth explanation of the company’s value they provide will be more liked by customers. In simple words explain what the organization strives to accomplish.
  6. 6. Make it Fit with Organization Vision Ensure to align with company vision and strategy. If it feels that company strategy requires a pivot as per your learning and working do not hesitate to take it up with stakeholders. The product vision statement should align with the company vision and strategy or it can also go the other way around for the betterment of the organization. Adapt Vision as per Target Audience as well as Your Learning Don’t be afraid to change direction in the journey as per your learning and target audience if required. It is okay if the product vision stated at the very start doesn’t match the targeted audience feedback, or preferences and feels the need to change, then go for it just don’t repeat it often.
  7. 7. Must Include Brand Persona A mission statement is a way of representing your organization, its personality, and standing out points from your competitor organizations. Instead of being too impersonal and stuffy the better way is to showcase yourselves as casual, and conversational. This will create a rapport with the audience and bring comfort to your organization and your customers. Longevity When it comes to an organization’s mission statement, it should be long lug and lasting up to the changing directions of an organization. Continuity is an important aspect when you are aiming for the brand image. It’s okay to change the mission statement but plan to have changes as minimal as possible. Make the mission statement resilient and broad enough so that it may sustain and embrace the change.
  8. 8. Involve Emotional Appeal No customers go where the appeal is boring or not so attractive, even if it's hard to notice or remember. While creating a mission statement, be bold enough to add some edge and personality, and aim to make it energizing, inspirational, and memorable. Having a little emotional appeal will make it easy to connect with the audience compared to a scientific, bland, and objective approach. It's always better to have more minds thinking than to be single. So better involve your agile team in the task instead of going alone on the task. It will help you have more ideas and a clearer view of the organization's personality from every perspective. Last but not the list; test the mission statement with people who are willing to contribute their input to it. With the above impacting elements any organization can ensure that its mission statement is an effective one and ready to work its responsibility it is created.
