RESEARCH
Sasha Tait
For my audience research I decided the best way was to make a
survey so I could ask specific questions in a quick and effective
method. I’ve found through previous surveys that people don’t tend to
answer written questions seriously so I decided to keep it to multiple
choice questions that give me the basic information that I need.
The first question I asked was age. Although, it was already stated in
the brief that the age group this project is for is 16-25 year olds I still
felt that this was a necessary question to narrow it down a little more
and through asking this question I found that the majority of people
who took my survey are between 16-17 and since that is the range
that I am in this makes it a lot easier since I can partially base my
project on prior knowledge that I have.
The next question I asked was about gender. The result won’t effect
my final product in any way, this question was simply to help me to
learn more about my audience and through this we see that an equal
amount of males and females that took my survey and that one
person is non-binary and one person would rather not say.
The next question I asked was whether the participants are
students or if they have jobs. Only one of the people that
took my survey isn’t a student and no one that took the
survey has a job.
The main purpose of these questions was to find out more
about my audience.
For example, since I am a student I have an idea on the
availability of students and also that it can be difficult for
them to get to concerts so this is information that will be
useful for my project.
Since I plan on making this project about music and concerts
it’s important that my audience are interested in those things
so I asked the survey participants if they have ever been to a
concert. Out of the 10 participants 6 of them said that they
have meaning the majority have, from this we can assume
that they are interested in music which makes my project
appropriate for my audience.
I then asked if they would be interested in learning about
music and concert venues in Sunderland. Since this is the
premise of my project, if the majority said ‘No’ it wouldn’t make
a lot of sense to do my project on this however, 80% said that
they would be interested in seeing this which means that the
plans I already have for my project don’t have to change.
