A 5-YEAR REHABILITATION & SUSTAINABLE RE-DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME FOR THE NEPAL EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS
The disaster in Nepal has elicited response at a global scale from Governments to Student Organisations rushing to aid the affected. Global media has kept us informed of the plight of the people and operations are at a high scale. Our learning’s from previous disasters indicate that post the tragedy, rescue efforts usually scaled down. This leaves people lost and confused, fending for themselves. While many efforts are primarily driven towards imminent rescue and relief, we at Save My Nepal have chosen to assist in the long term re-building of lives, eco-systems, village-economies and resuscitation of local markets and schools. This is a viable and sustainable way to help.
We aim to tackle the basic questions which arise beyond the aftermath: How and where do you start rebuilding your life? How does one cope with grief and at the same time tend to the future?
At Save My Nepal, our focus is towards the wholesome aid of villages and societies such that they can re-build their ecosystems in a sustainable self-sufficient model. A model that gives them hope for a better future and a reason to embrace life again.

#SAVEMYNEPAL - DONATE A SHELTER HOME
1. On Saturday 25 April 2015, a massive earthquake of 7.9-magnitude struck Nepal and forever changed the lives
of about 8 million people, leaving hundreds of thousands homeless.
Survivors deserve more than interim measures
Relief agencies were extremely prompt to provide tents and tarpaulin shelters immediately after the disaster
struck. However, such makeshift tents and plastic covers were an emergency reaction and are not reliable or
practical as short or medium term housing solutions.
A grave need for safe & semi-permanent housing
Until the country is ready to re-build again, survivors need urgent support in setting up a secure dwelling for
themselves that will stand up against the continuous aftershocks, falling debris and rapidly changing climate.
Come June, the monsoons will begin, followed by the bitter winters of the Himalayas. Therefore, it is of prime
importance that suitable transitional housing be implemented immediately to protect people right NOW!
Advantages of Portal Shelters over regular tents
• Very low cost at Rs. 7,500 per home
• They use locally sourced materials
• Are quick to construct (4 people can build one
a day)
• People will be trained to build the shelters
themselves
• These shelters will function as homes,
temporary schools, medical centres,
community kitchens and sanitation facilities
• The entire structure can be disassembled and
the same materials can be re-used when
constructing permanent houses at a later stage
HELP US TO PROVIDE SAFE SHELTER HOMES FOR THE NEPAL VICTIMS
Portal Shelters provide the perfect solution
The Save My Nepal Campaign focuses on
answering the pressing daily needs of the
survivors in Nepal. After tying up with American
inventor Eli Kretzmann, we are now ready to
send sustainable and self-sufficient shelters that
will last under extreme weather conditions.
The Portal Shelter is a simple and effective
solution for transitional housing and is best
suited for protection against rains, winds, winter,
and other elements in the given circumstances.
These shelters were tested and proved
extremely effective in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
They can be deployed in Nepal within days.
Whilst our medium to long-term vision is to build Model Villages in the regions which faced the brunt of the
earthquake, that will take at least a year to get off the ground. Until then, these Portal Shelters will serve as
an efficient interim solution and help people to live once again in a safe environment.
