Robots 3D is a 39-minute documentary that showcases the latest developments in robotics around the world. It introduces several humanoid robots, including CHIMP, ATLAS, PR-2, Herb the Butler, and ICUB, and explains what it takes to replicate human characteristics like fingers and toes in robots. The film is shown in IMAX 3D format at the IMAX Theatre, where visitors can learn more about the large screen and 3D projection technology used.
1. Today's robots are nothing short of astonishing. Those coming in the not-too-distant future are simply
revolutionary – and becoming eerily like us.
What does it take to make a humanoid robot – a robot that can do anything we can but without the benefit of
a human brain? How close are scientists to replicating some of the particularly challenging human
characteristics (think fingers and toes)? Why are we even attempting to create humanoids in the first place?
Robots 3D answers these questions and more as it showcases the latest developments – both successes
and failures – of robotics around the world.
Robot "actor" RoboThespian will introduce you to CHIMP, ATLAS, PR-2, Herb the Butler, ICUB, and others as
he takes you on an amazing tour of what's going on in robotics labs around the world.
Robots 3D has a running time of 39 minutes.

Did you know?
An IMAX 3D film is actually two films being projected perfectly in synchronisation with each other, one
for each eye
An IMAX film is so heavy that a fork lift is required to lift it in and out of position. The average IMAX
film if rolled out would measure around four miles
The IMAX screen is the height of four double-decker buses and 64 taxis could be parked on top if it
were laid flat
