Alcoholics Anonymous was co-founded by Bill W. and Dr. Bob S. in 1935 to help alcoholics recover through a mutual-aid fellowship. Al-Anon was founded in 1951 by Lois W. and Anne B. to help families and friends of alcoholics deal with the effects of living with an alcoholic through sharing their experience, strength, and hope. Both fellowships are based on the 12-step program and have helped millions of people worldwide in their recovery process.
