  2. 2. Introduction  Wearable technology are clothing and accessories incorporating computer and advanced electronic technologies. The designs often incorporate practical functions and features.  Worn by user - but are intended to interact with the wearer without punching keys or other manipulation.
  3. 3.  Wearable devices are a good example of the Internet of Things, since they are a part of physical objects ("things“) embedded with electronics, software, sensors and connectivity.  always on, always working.  The Wearable technology consists of two parts: 1. sensors, glasses, watches and even foot wear; 2. Information aggregator & analyser

Reasons for growth of Wearable Technology  Location Data:  Device GPS,  Internet traffic information.  Cloud storage:  Big data, Internet of things.  Reduced IT cost with cloud computing.  Faster ,smaller and cheaper hardware:  Getting 100 times smaller every decade;  easy portability.
  5. 5. Key Industries  Fitness , wellness and healthcare.  Infotainment.  Industrial and Military.
  6. 6. Fitness and Healthcare  Wearable Technology is being used to measure a lot of health-related data, such as the step count, heart rate, Blood pressure, etc.
  7. 7.  Wearable technology has started to revolutionize healthcare by:  assisting doctors in the operating room; and providing real time access to electronic health records.  Patients can now continuously monitor their own health.
  8. 8. Infotainment  The popular segment that combines information and entertainment.  Includes the smartwatch and the smart glass.
  9. 9. Smartwatches  A smartwatch is a computerized wristwatch with functionality that is enhanced beyond timekeeping.  Modern smartwatches are effectively wearable computers. Many run mobile apps, using a mobile OS.  Some smartwatches function as portable media players.  Some models, also called 'watch phones', feature full mobile phone capability, and can make or answer phone calls.

Smart Glasses  Smart glasses is a wearable computer with an optical head mounted display(OHMD) or computerized internet-connected glasses with transparent heads-up display(HUD) or Augmented Reality(AR) overlay that has the capability of reflecting projected digital images as well as allowing the user to see through it.

Oculus Rift  It is a virtual reality headset.  Among the first consumer-targeted VR headsets.  The Rift has an OLED display, a 1080p, or 1080×1200, resolution per eye, a 90 Hz refresh rate, and 110° field of view.  It has integrated headphones which provide a 3D audio effect, rotational and positional tracking.  The Rift can be used while sitting, standing or walking around.

Military  Radically improved aiming capabilities.  Rifles that can track targets, detect wind and weather, and calculate the optimal flight path for the bullet now exist.  Monitor physical state and injuries.  thumbnail-size sensors, attached to bandages, monitor a user’s vitals such as heart rate, breathing, and hydration.  Better communication between troops and military dogs  Providing 360-degree battlefield awareness

  14. 14. Advantages  portability  hands free use  comfortable  always on for the task it is designed  quick accessibility  fashionable
  15. 15. Disadvantages  less versatile  ambient noise  not widely accepted yet  expensive  at times, a lot of wiring  heat emission may cause irritation  side effects(headaches)  Data security threats, if device is lost or stolen
  16. 16. Conclusion Without a doubt, Wearable Technology is among the most promising technologies with scope to improve. As it is mentioned:  Getting smaller in size  Wearables will continue to reign in popularity  Even reaching to animals  Brave attempts at fashionable bluetooth jewellery and clothing  Focusing needed on better designs for mass appeal  Future projections seems to be reaching to the highest level  Wearables will integrate more seamlessly into daily life  Adding more sensors will consolidate devices and broaden market appeal
