• The band was formed in 2011
by lead singer Jesse Rutherford
and guitarist Jeremy Freedman
• They are known for their „dark“
music style, lyrics with deep
meaning and black and white
music videos (due to the fact
that lead singer Jesse
Rutherford is color blind)
• They are an organic band, who
writes their own music and does
not follow the stereotypical
conventions of boy bands

• Their lyrics in this album are very
angst-ridden and they talk about their
own thoughts and anxieties through
their music. It is very dark
• There are amazing songs like
„Afraid“, „Sweater Weather“, „Staying
up“ or „Float“

• Their website is quite minimalistic, yet
informative
• The cover of their latest album „hard to
imagine The neighborhood ever changing“
and the name of it, is the first thing that
can be seen
• The rest of the website consists of music
videos and lyric videos of their songs and
tour dates
• (What surprised me was, that the color
scheme of the website was so different to
what they usually go for. Their typical
„black and white“ theme was nowhere to
be seen) —> then again, in an interview
Rutherford stated, that the world itself is
serious enough and sometimes he just
wants to have fun and go away from the
„dark and depressing“ theme.

6. SWEATER WEATHER
• Their most famous song is sweater weather, which
was released on the „I Love You.“ Album (their most
popular one yet)
• Recorded in 2011, It was released in 2013 under the
genre „Indie Rock“
• The Video perfectly displays their music style and
what makes them „different“ from other bands
• The video is completely in black and white and
conveys the meaning of the lyrics only slightly, so I
would say it is a „disjuncture“ type of music video.
• The logo of the band is also shown at the end of the
video. Their logo is an upside down house. They
have used this to create an interesting effect in the
music video by spraying the house onto a white wall
and then turning the whole picture upside down so
that everything in the video, except for the logo
seems „wrong“ —> focus is on the logo
• This could also link to the view that the band seems
to have on the world judging by their lyrics in the
songs
