About Claude Monet  Claude Monet was born in Paris, France on November 14, 1840.  Monet loved to draw, when he was a child.  When Claude became a teenager, he would draw caricatures of his teachers and friends on his schoolwork.  By 15 years old, he was recognized as a caricature artist.
  3. 3. Like Van Gogh, Monet started painting with very dark colors, but...

  12. 12. Impression, Sunrise Monet was considered to be the founder of impressionism. At this time, this word was used as an insult or in an unkind way. Monet had many friends who felt that they were just being different and that being different was good.
  13. 13. Monet died at 86 years old. He painted over 1000 paintings in his career. His final paintings were a bit cloudy due to an eye condition called cataracts.

  15. 15. About this book: Julie is the daughter of Edouard Manet and Berthe Morisot, who were both impressionists. Her greyhound, Louey, was a gift from her uncle, Pierre-Auguste Renoir who was also an impressionist. Julie also became an artist.
