Resume Review General Tips: ● Tailor your resume to the job if you can ● Don’t lie or embellish your knowledge ● Highlight what you did and how it made a difference a. “Worked in a small team using latest testing methodologies to help end-to-end testing of our product” b. “Our team leveraged data-driven testing to and caught 10% more bugs before they reached the customer” Things I look far: ● Experience in or around the technology ● Doesn’t always have to be exact i.e. C++/Java/C# and OOP ● A degree or experience showing you are capable of learning in this area ● Doesn’t have to be CS-related, but it helps ● Experience trumps degree ● If you have experience – progression / improvement

Resume Submission ● Physical vs Digital submission ● Cover letter -> this doesn’t get far ● Analyzed by machines ● Human review ● Sourcing is a search, typically includes Linked In these days ● Experience in or around the technology a. Doesn’t always have to be exact i.e. C++/Java/C# and OOP ● Experience in the role (especially leadership roles) a. Don’t cold apply to a managerial role with no managerial experience ● A degree or experience showing you are capable of learning in this area a. Doesn’t have to be CS-related, but it helps b. Experience trumps degree ● If you have experience – progression / improvement

Common Pitfalls ● No experience / No CS Degree ● Reality is finding good talent is hard, its’ scarce ● You need to stand out with projects ● Having a side project to talk about helps with the interview ● If a career change, highlight skills from previous role ● If you can, you should have one ● GitHub | Apps in the stores | Blog / Website a. Dev blog on how you built it b. Web site showing it off, videos, etc ● Break in employment a. Will be a blocker to getting considered b. When you do get into the interview - have an answer, practice it c. Employers want to see productive time, what did you do on the break to make yourself more marketable / competitive i. Self study | Side Projects | Additional degrees / Certifications
